Spatial Memory And Situational Reconstruction

Jiangnan rural area landscape has become homogeneous,superficial and empty against the backdrop of urbanization,prompting a general sense of collective nostalgia.A series of social issues poses higher demand for the discipline of design.The subject of this dissertation focuses on contemporary Jiangnan rural area cultural landscape design.The author hopes that through reconstruction of landscape of cultural memory,we can transform omnipresent nostalgia into inner cultural driving force that can further sustainable development of contemporary rural areas and achieve a balance between rural preservation and rural construction and development.It is significant.The dissertation,based on cultural memory theories,synthesizes theories and methodologies from multiple disciplines such as design,landscape architecture,architecture typology and semiotics,and proposes a systematic framework of social,time and space,media and function dimensions.Firstly,social dimension,explains social background and cultural meaning of nostalgia,emphasizes social significance of cultural memory construction of contemporary Jiangnan rural area space and the values and orientations of integrated co-existence,analyzes integrated interactions between cultural memory and landscape design,proposes the systematic framework of contemporary Jiangnan rural area cultural landscape design strategy.Secondly,time and space dimension,makes in-depth studies of amphibious natural environment,integrated market-community economic society and poetic and tolerant cultural ideas and their impact on the formation of traditional Jiangnan rural area landscape,turns from visual thinking of space formations to special contexts and local rules of Jiangnan rural area cultural memory.Thirdly,media dimension,studies the mode of design transformation between cultural memory and landscape language symbols,it selects,analyzes and adopts symbols and elements of Jiangnan rural area cultural memory,and set up a languagesymbol system of Jiangnan rural area cultural landscape with regional perception,and condensed the spiritual core of Jiangnan context which should have continuity and cohesion structure.Lastly,function dimension,explains the inner logic of integrated co-existence of contemporary Jiangnan rural area cultural landscape.With cultural memory as orientation,catering to ecological landscape,productive landscape and living landscape,proposes modes of reference and analogy,symbol and metaphor,and context as mode of communication and transformation and completes the construction of strategy system of contemporary Jiangnan rural area cultural landscape design.The integrated co-existence of the cultural memory of Jiangnan rural area space and landscape context,are not only the value objectives of memory construction,but also a set of generative and futuristic theories and methodologies of landscape design.The research results are of academic and practical values for rural construction in Jiangnan and even the whole nation.
