The Research On The Mutual-beneficial Effects Between The Industrial Heritage And Urban Regeneration In UK

With the comprehensive innovations of science and technology,the industrialization has experienced extensive structural adjustments among world cities,and a great deal of industrial heritages have presented in the decay cities,which became vital conundrums waiting for urban managers to solve.The issue of industrial heritage in cities stemmed from the industrial recession,and the industrial recession stemmed from the dynamics of cities and self-revolutionary of industrialization.After WW ?,UK confronted with serious and widespread issues of cities' decay.Meanwhile,a great deal of industrial buildings,structures and elements were forsaken,which seriously impeded the sustainable development of cities.In practice,with the development of urban management ideas,progresses in science and technology,changes of social lives and public aesthetic,UK has initiated urban regeneration via industrial heritage,and achieved preferable Mutual-beneficial effects.Via investigating a great deal of first-hand materials and carrying out fieldworks in UK,basing on the appreciation of industrial heritage from UNESCO,WHC,ICOMOS,TICCIH,relying on the theories of Peter Hall's city development stages,Daniel Bell's post-industrial society,and Kevin Lynch's city image theory,the dissertation firstly connected the research on the cities' gradual progress of UK and the transformation of its industrial heritage,then associated UK's cities development stages and the adaptive re-use of industrial heritage,also analyzed the interest relevance between UK cities and industrial heritage in the aspect of stakeholder.Finally,via the method of typologoy,the dissertation agrued three types of industrial heritages for developmet in UK with examples.Firstly,the dissertation forwardly analyzed the promotion and development of UK's industrial heritage to urban regeneration.By analyzing industrial archaeology's improvement to urban industrial communities' welfare,industrial heritage archives' enrichment to urban industrial history,industrial heritage cultural education's inheritance to urban industrial culture cores,industrial heritage landscape's optimization to urban environment,industrial heritage museum's extension to urban image dimensions,industrial heritage tourism's acceleration to urban economy,it proved that the industrial-culture-oriented optimized regeneration strategies,industrial-spirit-oriented fulfilled regeneration connotation,nostalgic-feeling-distinctive enhanced regeneration validity.Secondly,the dissertation reversely analyzed the inheritance and conservation of UK urban regeneration to industrial heritage.By analyzing city culture's enhancement to industrial heritage conservation critical points,urban industrial communities' densification to industrial heritage conservation intensity,urban cultural landmark's shape to industrial heritage inheritance quintessence,urban cultural zone's construction to industrial heritage inheritance platforms,urban cultural zone's enhancement to industrial culture materialization,urban creative industries' promotion to industrial culture development,it proved that urban regeneration promoted the industrial heritage conservation,and drove the industrial heritage inheritance,also optimized industrial culture development.Thirdly,the dissertation empirically analyzed the Mutual-beneficial effects in UK world heritage Ironbridge Gorge.By arguing the district development and industrialization,clarifying three stakeholders' functions,it analyzed the ten industrial heritage museums' promotion to local economy recovery,major industrial heritage landscapes' facilitation for the cultural construction of the area,so proved Ironbridge Gorge's industrial heritage's promotion to district regeneration.It analyzed district regeneration's improvement to local industrial community's welfare,district regeneration's inheritance to industrial context,so proved Ironbridge Gorge's district regeneration's promotion to industrial heritage.Finally,the dissertation also analyzed the enlightments from the Mutual-beneficial effects between the industrial heritage and urban regeneration in UK to China.Presently,some cities in China have already entered or will enter the recession after de-industrialization,and those cities are facing or will face the various urban issues as UK.Therefore,the experience and lessons can offer referential significances for China.Basing on related documents,data and case-studies,it analyzed two current situations,three problems,three reasons,five potentials,five values of China's situations,and offered eleven improvement strategies for China.Therefore,it achieved practical significances and reference values,and completed the comprehensive study from theory to practice on the Mutual-beneficial effects between the industrial heritage and urban regeneration in UK.
