Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to understand if a significant relationship exists between job satisfaction and five facets of job satisfaction, which are work on present job, present pay, supervision, coworkers, and opportunities for promotion for human resources management professionals. The abridged Job in General scale and the abridged Job Descriptive Index were the instruments used to determine if a relationship exists between overall job satisfaction and job satisfaction in five facets of job satisfaction. A Pearson correlation was the statistical method used to determine the strength of the relationships of the variables and if one existed at all. The theoretical framework for this study was the Herzberg motivation-hygiene theory, which considers motivational factors and hygiene factors as they relate to satisfaction. The participants in this study were 138 human resource management professionals from across the United States. This profession was chosen based on the limited research done on these professionals' job satisfaction, which is the profession that has to address job satisfaction issues as a primary job function and a profession that is privy to sensitive information that is not accessible to others in the workplace. This research revealed that HRM professionals exhibited weak to strong positive relationships between overall job satisfaction and the different facets of job satisfaction, as measured by the aJIG and aJDI, respectively. The study revealed that a relationship exist between job satisfaction and each of the five facets of job satisfaction--work on the present job, present pay, supervisors, coworkers and opportunities for promotion. All five null hypotheses were rejected as relationships, one weak, three moderates, and one strong, were found. For the most part, HR Professionals are satisfied with their jobs.
