Abstract/Summary:
At a small, private, liberal arts college in Northeast Ohio, one campus minister completed a research project that sought to teach undergraduate students the connection between the Table of the Lord and an everyday shared meal. After training students to serve as table leaders and facilitators, a group of undergraduates participated in a three-week project that resulted in the development of small faith-sharing communities. Students demonstrated an understanding of link between a shared meal without electronic distraction and the sacred meal in their individual religious traditions. Using mixed method research tools and gathering both qualitative and quantitative data, the researcher discovered that undergraduate students valued the communal meal and in fact, many of the participants actually reported increased church attendance. This study can be replicated at colleges and universities of various sizes and scope.
