Abstract/Summary:
The research explored how seniors use social media to connect, engage and communicate information due to the impact of Web technology. Prior studies noted the younger demographics as more technically savvy than seniors, suggesting that seniors were slower to acquire and use digital technologies. During the study, a phenomenon related to the steadily increasing senior population suggested a future negative impact on social and support services in the United States. The discovery heralds a rising economic crisis and a call to action for future research. The nexus of the research was the convergence of more seniors, the burdens of supporting benefits for seniors coupled with the use of social media to connect, share and make decisions using emerging technology.;Keywords: age, demographics, entitlements, population shift, seniors, social media/networking.
