Commercial Vehicle Parking Management Strategies for Residential Delivery in New Yor

The purpose of this research is to develop strategic recommendations for reducing the impacts of home delivery in residential areas. Challenges of last-mile residential delivery in New York City were identified by data mining in multiple open databases and confirmed by field observation in selected areas. Field observations revealed unique operational characteristics of residential delivery vehicles compared to business related delivery vehicles. Traffic and environment simulation models were employed to estimate the impacts associated with increasing residential freight movements. Based on the analysis of problem causes and evaluation of impact trade-offs, this study proposes management policies for better accommodating increasing residential freight demand.
