Abstract/Summary:
This collection of essays examine the ways in which the U.S. has been trying to provide incentives to the innovators and evaluate the current policies in effect. In the first chapter, I identify small start-up firms as the more significant contributor to the U.S. innovation and argue for size dependent innovation policies. In the second chapter, the U.S. R&E Tax Credit program is evaluated. Here, I present the history of the R&D credit and explore the effect of the uncertainty created by the frequent regime change both theoretically and empirically. In the final chapter, I analyze whether the intellectual property right encourages or discourages innovation.
