Transition metal containing zeolites are known to have good hydrocarbon lean NOx reduction activity. In this study, copper ion exchanged SUZ-4 zeolite has been tested under simulated lean NOx conditions to find out its activity. Many parameters have been varied so as to study their effects on the catalytic activity. Raman studies have been carried out on different transition metal ion exchanged SUZ-4s and band assignments have been made. 1-Propanamine has been used as a probe to detect Bronsted acid sites. Finally, theoretical studies have been carried out using SPARTAN 02 on NO adsorbed on small zeolite clusters. A mechanism for NO decomposition has also been proposed from these simulations. |
