Abstract/Summary:
We are in a period of profound global change. Since the end of the Cold War and onset of the second wave of globalization, nearly all socio-organizational systems and modes of production have faced significant pressure to adapt to a new and changing environment, or cease to exist. In such a world, brittle organizations break while resilient organizations adapt to change and thrive. Where resilience is defined as "the ability of a system to anticipate, withstand, recover, change, and evolve in challenging environments," and contributes to the ability of an organization to survive in turbulent times. This research provides a comparative meta-analysis of organizational case studies, comparing organizations to identify what variables are associated with survival-resilience and which ones are not. Resilient traits gathered from the literature are coded and rolled up into larger categories. The Study concludes with an analysis of the resilient traits and recommendations for future research.
