Abstract/Summary:
This study uses the narrative of Duck Dynasty to explore the values of its viewers. More than 200 people participated in a pre-test post-test study, completing surveys that were administered via the Internet using Survey Monkey and in person within the confines of a classroom environment. Respondents were asked about their personal values and the values they found in Duck Dynasty, particularly of the Robertson family. Other questions were asked about their religious affiliation, ethnicity, gender, age, and income to see if any associations existed between these groups and the influence of Duck Dynasty.;Duck Dynasty has many attributes of an entertainment education reality television program. This study considers whether or not its potential use as an Entertainment Education program would be an effective strategy to promote pro-social values, such as patriotism. While EE strategy may not have been fully utilized in the production of Duck Dynasty, future reality television shows and networks may consider using this strategy to educate audiences about pro-social values of godliness, thrift, good health and other features of a productive life.
