The purpose of this study is to explore and identify possible common career beliefs and barriers that might provide guidance through the necessary transition for the career planning process and life after sports for male college basketball players. The male college basketball player should take advantage of planning a career while participating in college basketball to allow maximum preparation for career investigation and the collegiate athletic transition (Petitpas, Champagne, Chartrand, Danish, & Murphy, 1997). Preparation for life after sports should not begin once the playing days have ended. A mixed methodology utilizing a descriptive case study research design will be used to examine the significance of career beliefs and the transitioning male college basketball player into a post athletic career.
