Abstract/Summary:
This evaluative examination was designed to investigate correctional education, programs, and services that demonstrate effectiveness in reducing inmate recidivism. Based on effectiveness, correctional education, programs and services were evaluated. As a result, correctional education, programs and services were recommended to correctional administrators and superintendents, law officials and stakeholders for consideration and implementation in the correctional setting. The relationship between inmates who participated in correctional education, programs and services and inmates who did not participate in correctional education, programs, and services was examined. Inmates who participated in correctional education, programs, and services were surveyed and completed a questionnaire. Results were scrutinized in terms of correctional education, programs, and services, which the literature and inmate study participants advocated to be most beneficial and important Analysis of the data revealed that inmates do believe correctional education, programs, and services are beneficial and enhance inmate learning. Thus, correctional services must consider the specific educational needs of inmates, by attempting to accommodate those specific needs in a correctional setting.
