Abstract/Summary:
A quantitative research methodology was used in this study to investigate the application of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to the adoption of electronic health records among health information managers in Arkansas. The health information manager is in a position to serve as an agent for change in adopting electronic health record technology. This study included evaluation of the health information manager's perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of an electronic health record system. Further constructs of behavior intention, security, and reliability were also examined. The study population included 94 health information managers in the state of Arkansas. Each manager represented one hospital. A return rate of 74.5% was achieved. The results showed a difference between those health information managers that had adopted electronic health records versus those that had not with respect to perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, behavior intention, security and reliability. The study may serve as a guiding tool for health information managers that have not adopted electronic health records as well as for vendors that market this technology.
