Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to conduct a secondary analysis of the impact of school management practices on school performance utilizing a survey design of School and Staffing (SASS) data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) of the U.S. Department of Education, 1999-2000. The study identifies those school management practices that have had a positive impact in helping the school to meet district or state performance goals; and, analyzed those school management practices that are effective in contributing to the overall success of the school.;This study investigated the most appropriate ways to ensure that schools are performing effectively by recommending improvement in the design and implementation of training and professional development activities, the hiring of school staff, and the use of school data focusing on effective school practices for principals and other educators based on SASS data collected by the NCES 1999-2000.;The researcher utilized a survey design of school and staffing (SASS) data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) of the U.S. Department of Education, 1999-2000. Under the No Child Left Behind Act (2001) a school's performance is commonly assessed by its rate of adequate yearly progress (AYP), based upon its performance in critical areas; but, this study emphasized the significance of effective school management practices that contribute to schools meeting minimum district or state performance goals. The intent of this study was to add to the body of knowledge concerning effective school management practices needed to ensure success in meeting the high demands of public school accountability.
