The chemical compositions as well as the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of 43 samples of essential oils from the family lamiacea were investigated. Chemical composition of the essential oil Lamiacea was analyzed using Gas Chromatography/Mass spectrometry GC/MS. The analysis showed different chemical composition at varying percentages. The predominant components were found to be Limonene, eucalyptol, 3-Carene, pinene, and thymol. The essential oils were also analyzed by 13C NMR and HPLC. The result of the sample against gram positive and gram negative bacteria as well as fungi showed a significant inhibition especially among the thymus vulgaris species. The antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH free radical-scavenging method. The significant inhibitory and antioxidant activities indicated that some of the essential oils (laminaceae) have potentials to be use as antimicrobial agent and for biological purposes.
