Research On Spatial Evolution Of Urban Agglomeration In South Central Liaoning Province From The Perspective Of "Geography-Market-Institution"

Nowadays China has entered a new era of urban development,the urban agglomeration is not only the main space carrier of China's economic growth and population urbanization,but also the main space for China to participate in the world competition game and the most prominent space of human and land contradiction in our country.The study of urban agglomeration has become an important field of current academic research and planning practice,and the study of spatial evolution progress of urban agglomeration on the time series which is based on the space and system theory has become a key concern of the human geographical scholars.The thesis is based on the technical thinking of “inductive sorting—theoretical deduction—empirical research—model verification”.According to the general research process of “pattern-process-mechanism”,the thesis constructs its whole frame.Three research contents are included:(1)An systematic arrangement of factors affecting the spatial evolution of urban agglomerations,and the consideration of institutional factors are added to propose an interpretation framework of “geography-market-institution”;(2)A systematic empirical study on the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province from three aspects: spatial pattern,spatial connection and spatial expansion;(3)The mechanism of spatial evolution of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province is explained from the perspective of "geography-market-institution" interpretation framework.The thesis consists of eight chapters,which are divided into three parts,and the above three contents are studied separately.The first and second chapters of the thesis are the first part,which is the basic part of the thesis;the third chapter to the seventh chapter is the second part,studying the theory deduction and the empirical verification,which is the core chapter of the thesis;the eighth chapter is the third part,which is the end of the thesis.The chapters are arranged in detail as follows:Chapter one: Introduction.The first chapter is to clarify the background,significance,contents,methods,data sources and technical routes of the thesis,and the related basic theories including system theory,spatial interaction theory,regional development theory,labor district division of labor theory and spatial structure evolution theory are reviewed.Chapter two: Research review and definition of concepts.It includes:(1)A review and evaluation of existing research on urban agglomerations,spatial evolution progress of urban agglomerations,mechanisms of spatial evolution,and urban agglomeration in the central and south of Liaoning province;(2)The definition of the concepts of urban agglomeration,spatial and spatial elements,spatial structure and spatial evolution;(3)The scope and spatial scale of empirical study in central and southern Liaoning province.Chapter three: Multi-factor interpretation framework for spatial evolution of urban agglomeration.From the perspective of system theory,the various factors affecting the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration are classified into geographic factors,market factors and institutional factors,and each major factor contains several sub-factors.This chapter focuses on the mechanisms of the three major types of factors and their sub-factors,as well as their interactions,and they are logically expressed in the form of a box diagram,which is summarized and elaborated from the two aspects of horizontal(cause)and vertical(result).And an explanatory framework for the spatial evolution of urban agglomerations from the perspective of “geography-market-institution” is proposed,which consists of three parts: The first,the mechanism of three major factors and their sub-factors;The second,the interaction relationship between three major factors and their sub-factors;The third,The influence factors and mechanism of the evolution of spatial pattern,spatial connection and spatial expansion of urban agglomeration.Chapter four: Study on the spatial evolution of the factors in the urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.The spatial pattern evolution of economic,industrial,demographic and urbanization,and capital of south central Liaoning province are studied at different spatial scales by means of measuring the standard deviation coefficient,coefficient of variation,Nich index,location entropy and thematic map comparison.The evolution is then compared to other mature cities and its mechanisms are explained from the perspective of “geo-market-institution”.Chapter five: study on the evolution of spatial pattern in urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.It mainly studies the spatial evolution of urban structure in urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.The indicators of urban primacy index,geordie coefficient,typing study and Zipf rule are employed to study the evolution of urban scale structure,.Afterwards,a comparative study with other mature urban agglomerations is carried out,and the mechanism explanation is discussed from the perspective of “geography-market-institution” by the method of geographically weighted regression model.Chapter six: Study on the evolution of spatial connection in urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.It mainly studies the evolution of spatial connection in urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province by the method of improved gravity model and material flow intensity of city.Afterwards,a comparative study with other mature urban agglomerations is carried out,and the mechanism explanation is discussed from the perspective of “geography-market-institution”.Chapter seven: Study on the evolution of spatial expansion of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.Based on the interpretation of land use/coverage classification data and nighttime light images,the evolution process of spatial expansion of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province is studied.The quantitative characteristics of spatial expansion of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province are investigated from the whole view of urban agglomeration using the indicators of average annual growth,net increase rate and average annual growth rate.The spatial expansion rate,spatial expansion intensity is measured by net-increase indexand urban expansion intensity indexrespectively,also urban expansion difference indexand the spatial development intensity are measured by Dmsp/ols nighttime lights images,all of these studies are based on different scales.The geographical distribution pattern of spatial expansion of urban agglomeration is measured by using spatial center of gravity,quadrant buffer analysis,grid discretization,evenness indexand compact ratio.This chapter also compares urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province with other mature cities and towns.Finally,the random forest algorithm is employed to measure the influence degree of various impact factors in the spatial expansion of urban agglomerations.Based on this,the historical simulation of urban expansion in GeoSOS-FLUS software is used to verify the results of random forest experiments and obtain influence,then the importance of factors are concluded and the mechanism of the institutional factors are discussed.Chapter Eight: Conclusions and discussion.Including a review of research conclusions,the innovation and insufficiency of the thesis and the discussion of the future research direction.The thesis finally got following conclusions:(1)An explanatory framework for the spatial evolution of urban agglomerations from the perspective of “geography-market-institution” is proposed;(2)The spatial evolution characteristics of Urban Agglomeration in South Central Liaoning Province in recent 30 years are expounded;(3)The spatial evolution of the urban agglomerations in central and southern Liaoning shows obvious spatial and temporal differentiation characteristics;(4)The urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province shows a spatial evolution process that exhibits both general and regional characteristics;(5)The interpretation framework of “geography-market-institution” can rationally explain the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration.The thesis tries to make an innovative contribution in three aspects:First of all,propose a spatial evolution interpretation framework for urban agglomerations from the perspective of “geography-market-institution” and be verified.From the perspective of the spatial evolution factor of urban agglomeration,the factors affecting the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration are divided into three major categories: geographic factor,market factor and institutional factor,among which institutional factor is added creatively in this thesis.Secondly,there is a systematic study on the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province.It measures the spatial evolution of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province from three aspects of spatial pattern,spatial connection and spatial expansion.On one hand,it is the first time to do research on the spatial expansion and evolution of long-time series on the urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province,and concludes its law and characteristics.On the other hand,the regional characteristics of spatial evolution of urban agglomeration in south central Liaoning province are explained.After a comparative study,the paper argues that the urban agglomerations in central and southern Liaoning have differences with other mature urban groups in terms of history of development,geographic location,dynamic mechanism,government role,external environment,and development stage,showing both general laws regional characters of spatial evolution process.Thirdly,develop several new approaches to the study of spatial evolution of urban agglomeration.Mentioning the use of research methods,this thesis not only chose traditional mathematical statistics of various indexes,but also spatial statistical analysis methods such as geographically weighted regression model,as well as machine learning algorithms such as random forest algorithm and the application of GeoSOS-FLUS software platform,to explore the pattern,process and internal mechanism of urban group space evolution.
