The Made in China 2025,issued by the State Council in 2015,outlines the direction and objectives of manufacturing development from the national strategic level. It proposes to accelerate the integration of the new information technology and next-generation manufacturing technology, deepen the application of the Internet in the field of manufacturing, and improve the construction of Internet infrastructure. It is widely acknowledged that IT capability serves as a significant resource of business competitiveness, the measurement of which shows the degree of informatization of enterprises. At present, most Chinese enterprises have realized the importance of IT capability, but they are at a loss for how to develop and improve their IT capability. They have insufficient understanding of the connotation of IT capability and its internal structure, from which aspects to build their IT capability, and how to transform IT capabilities into business performance. With this backdrop, based on the theory of Dynamic Capacity View, knowledge management theory and Ambidexterity theory, given the existing research of IT capability, this paper, taking manufacturing enterprises as the study object, revolves around the core issues of the effects of IT capability on the performance of enterprises. It includes an in-depth study of the relationship among IT capability, innovation ambidexterity and enterprise performance, and builds theoretical model of the influence of IT capability on enterprise performance. In this model,IT capability is taken as an independent variable, the enterprise performance as the dependent variable, ambidexterity Innovation as the intervening variable, and the environmental uncertainty as the moderator variable. It determines the dimensions of each variable, the measuring questionnaire item and the relationships among variables. It puts forward the corresponding research hypothesis.Based on the empirical analysis of the questionnaire data of 430 manufacturing enterprises, the relationship among IT capability, ambidexterity innovation, environmental uncertainty and enterprise performance is validated by structural equation method. The following conclusions are drawn:(1)IT capability promotes the enterprise performance.(2)ambidexterity innovation plays a part of the intermediary role between IT capability and enterprise performance.Exploration innovation doesn't have significant effect on the intermediary effect between IT capability and enterprise performance, while exploitation innovation plays part mediating role. The dual intermediary role is mainly realized through the path of development innovation.(3)the environmental uncertainty doesn't play a significant role in regulating the relationship between IT capability and firm performance. The innovations of this study are mainly reflected in the following aspects:(1)The research of the ambidexterity innovation as intermediary variable enriches and expands the relevant research on the relationship between IT capability and enterprise performance. That's believes that IT capability,as it is not directly related to enterprise performance, forms a complex chain of assets and capabilities by influencing the competitive activities of enterprises, which ultimately brings sustainable competitive advantage to the enterprise. In previous studies, scholars have explored the impact mechanism of IT capabilities on enterprise performance from the perspectives of organizational learning, knowledge management, supply chain, strategic consistency, core competence, information coordination etc. There are little research on dual innovation as intermediary variables. With analysis of the intermediary effect of ambidexterity innovation in the relationship between the IT capability and the enterprise performance, this paper is to construct the mechanism and analysis framework of the three, reveal thoroughly the internal mechanism of IT capability on the enterprise performance and provide a fresh insight about the relationship of the three. The paper,to some extent, enriches the relevant research of the impact of IT capability on enterprise performance, and provides a reference for the construction and application of IT capability of enterprises.(2)The existing literature on the antecedent variables of ambidexterity innovation mainly includes the following factors such as structure, leadership behavior, strategy, environment, network and so on.The paths to be verified are the antecedent variables of structure and senior management team. This paper, based on the dynamic ability theory and knowledge management theory, identifies and validates the influence of IT capability on dual innovation theoretically.(3)This paper amends and develops a new IT capability scale which enriches the connotation of IT capability. In the past studies,IT capabilities often overlap with IT resources in terms of connotation and dimension, and both of them can be the source of competitive advantages of enterprises. This paper distinguishes the two closely related concepts of IT resources and IT capabilities, and holds that it is the IT capabilities, rather than IT resources, that promote the enterprise performance. On the basis of previous division of IT capability dimension, the IT security capability dimension was added to construct the IT competency scale, which includes three dimensions: absorptive capability, matching capability and security capability to deal with the increasingly serious information security problems associated with IT infrastructure and technology popularization. It proves to be scientific through both the test of validity and reliability and the analysis of the fitting index of structural equation. This scale is easy to use, suitable for investigation practice and academic research, and can be used as reference for future research.
