| Thanks to the significant development of library science in China,the academic achievements have accordingly become ever more abundant and the research subjects have also been constantly progressing and evolving.A quantitative analysis of the various research subjects in domestic library science results in the discovery of the major features of research contents as well as of the root causes of developmental changes,playing a critical role for rationally studying and judging future disciplinary development direction.Serving as an effective means for an understanding of disciplinary development direction,subject evolution characteristics and laws,subject distribution research is divided into such two types as building on the existing classification systems and constructing new subject classification system in an independent manner.The essay embarks on the exploring of the following 7 aspects.First,via sorting out,comparing and reviewing the research status of subject distribution of library science both at home and abroad,the essay points out the deficiency of the domestic research has in the second type of independent construction after analyzing China’s research paradigms in this regard by use of analytic hierarchy process.Second,it conducts content analysis of over 60,000 pieces of literature on library science over the 38 years between 1978 and 2015 in such forms as journal articles,dissertations,academic monographs,national social science foundation projects,so as to construct a subject classification list of China’s library science by referring to the key components of lists of the same kind under the guidance of experts.Third,the article carries out an all-round statistic analysis of 4 kinds of literature based on the independently constructed subject classification lists.Fourth,through statistical description of tiered subjects,the paper aims at presenting the development trajectories of 4 dissimilar literature subjects and at the analysis of hot spot and blind spot research subjects.Fifth,it summarizes subject distribution laws of 4 literature types by depicting the trajectory picture of first level subject distribution,on which basis it conducts the comparative study of subject distribution laws.Sixth,on the basis of the perspective of subject distribution law verification,the paper realizes the preliminary verification of China’s subject distribution laws in the library science research by carrying out a subject analysis based on journal distribution and a journal analysis based on subject distribution,and via an tentative summary of the distribution laws of research subjects in core journals.Seventh,the essay takes on a description of subject evolution trend of China’s library science,and makes predictions of the future development trends of all subjects.On the whole,the essay is of certain reference value as disciplinary sources to such behaviours as understanding and grasping the development dynamic,sorting out subject evolution process,and analyzing subject development trends.Also,the subject classification list constructed in the study is an attempt conducive to the domestic research area of subject distribution in library science.The first chapter of Introduction mainly illustrates the historical background of subject distribution research development,as well as the aim and significance of the study in this essay.This chapter also conducts a summary and review of the research status of subject distribution both domestically and abroad,generalizes the main research contents,the basic research techniques and technical routes,and summarizes the major innovation points in this study.The second chapter of Theoretical Basis presents the connotation and nature of historiometry,as well as the relationship between historiometry and subject distribution study.It also conducts generalization and depiction of such basic theories in library science as classification method principle,knowledge histography,and fundamentals of bibliometrics involved in the research process of subject distribution.Relevant principles of statistics touched upon in this study are also manifested in Chapter Two.The third chapter of Research Paradigm Analysis analyzes and sorts out the paradigms from such different levels as access means of subject terms,data analysis tools,research approaches upon the model construction of subject distribution research paradigms in China’s library science.Finally comes the evaluation of the current domestic paradigms.The fourth chapter focuses on the Construction of China’s Subject Classification List in Library Science during which process over 60,000 pieces of domestic libraries’ literature over the 38 years between 1978 and 2015 in such forms as journal articles,dissertations,academic monographs,national social science foundation projects have been selected as samples under the guidance of experts with reference to the key components of subject classification lists.The chapter then,with a study and grasp of the fundamental disciplinary development direction,formulates the drafted version the subject classification list of China’s library science and its annotation based on an objective understanding of the discipline before finalizing the list and its annotation by selecting data samples,multiple classification and adjustment.Lastly,the chapter provides an appraisal and analysis of the list.The fifth chapter centers on the Statistics of Library Science Study Subjects.This part conducts comprehensive vertical statistics and comparison of the subject distribution levels in 4 different types of literature based on separately constructed subject classification list.It also makes a summary of the hot spot subjects on first,second,and third levels in library science upon comparative analysis of hot spot subjects among all levels of dissimilar types of literature,and completes a preliminary judgment and analysis on blind spot research subjects.The sixth chapter is related to First Level Subject Distribution Laws in China’s Library Science.After a summary and description of the subject distribution laws in 4 types of academic literature,the chapter analyzes their first level laws based on trajectory picture of first level subject distribution of such literature as journal essays,dissertations,academic monographs,and national social science foundation projects along with the comparative study of the distribution laws of first level subjects in the above-mentioned literature.The seventh chapter,which is about the Verification of Subject Distribution Laws Based on the Analysis of Core Journals,demonstrates the general distribution picture of research subjects in different journals in a macro manner by comparing the number of published papers in 9 core journals.It then respectively examines 9 first level journals from the perspective of subject distribution and 9 first level subjects from the perspective of journal distribution.By summarizing the laws of subject distribution on the basis of the perspective of journal analysis,and by conducting comparison and analysis with subject distribution laws based on 4 different carrier formats mentioned earlier,the chapter successfully conducts the verification of the distribution laws of the integral research subjects in the subject distribution laws based on the journal analysis perspective.The eighth chapter relates to the Study of Subject Evolution Trend of Domestic Library Science.On the basis of the statistical description of first,second and third level subjects of 4 different types of literatures,this section introduces the analytical methods for functional data as well as smoothing method to conduct quantitative study of subject evolution,on the basis of which qualitative generalization and summary of subject development trend.The ninth chapter,titled as Conclusion and Outlook,serves as a summary of the whole study which not only embarks on the in-depth and comprehensive anatomy of the limitation of the research based on which it illustrates the possible direction for resolving problems in future studies,but also presents valuable subsequent studies in the field. |
