Comprehensive Chinese Medicine and Thai-Medicine Jaundice Literature Study Both TCM and Thai-Medicine offer unique perspectives in the treatment of Jaundice, yet there are limited research and studies been conducted systematically in the utilization of the best in both medicines. To better understand the practicality of integrating both medicine for the treatment of Jaundice,a comprehensive literature study is conducted on Jaundice to enhance understanding, compare the perspectives, and reveal the connections between TCM and Thai-Med.The comprehensive literature study focusses on data collection, data comparison and theoretical analysis on both ancient and modern literatures of TCM and Thai-Med.Analysis reveals major differences in the cultural understanding of jaundice, yet also similarities in the medical theoretical understandings and development.Culturally based differences mainly are shown through the divergent path of development compared to TCM,where one of the Thai-Med unique trait is a materialistic approach in medical diagnosis, yet shares a close rational relationship with religion(Buddhism)and shamanism.Literature study shows that the modem Thai-Med theory and practice mostly originates from Buddhist theories and practices, through the history of development forming the modern unique practice of medicine.Compared to Thai-Med,TCM is developed through the continuous exploration and analysis of clinical practices and theories developed through practice, combined with cultural influences, compiling into the current form of medical practice. The both shares similar development involving cultural influences, and differences in the rationalisation, understanding, contents and practiceLiterary data and information are sourced, selected and analysed from various databases Thai-Med Literature Sources include:Thai-Medical literature related information recorded in the 5th Edition.Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, various classical Thai-Med texts, medical treatise, medical textbooks and Thai-Med Classics. An analysis review is conducted on the following:CNKI and WIP academic literature database search for TCM and Thai-Med Jaundice articles from 1999-2019.After analysis of the current TCM researches, keywords are selected for the 2nd database search.2nd database search uses keyword 'jaundice',the articles and data are collected and analysed.Data collected and analysed results are organised in Excel spreadsheet format, data are categorized in the following manner:syndrome of disease, treatment protocol, formulae prescription content and dosage.Thai-Med literary data search keywords include:'yellowing of the eye','yellowing of the body','yellow urine' and 'jaundice'.42 TCM treatment related jaundice articles are selected, syndrome diagnosed totals to 3122 cases, analysis of cases results in total of 19 differential syndromes. Most common diagnosed differential syndrome is Liver and Gallbladder Damp-Heat syndrome(20/22.67%).Common treatment protocol includes:Heat clearing and eliminating dampness(31/35.23%),clearing the Gallbladder and dispersing jaundice(10/1.35%),invigorating blood circulation and removing stasis(8/9.09%).Commonly used formulae includes:Yin Chen Gao Tang modified(18/33.33%),Yin Chen Wu Ling San modified(3/3.54%),Long Dan Xie Gan Tang modified(1/1.85%),Xiao Du Li Huang Tang modified(1/1.85%),Zhi Zi Da Huang Tang modified(1/1.85%).Different herbs used totals to 710,of the 710,44 are used more than 4 times in all cases;10 are used in 2.5%of all cases. Most used herb is Yin Chen. Most used herb property is heat clearing herbs, followed by tonifying herbs, blood circulation invigorating herbs, and dampness removing and draining herbs.Herb are affiliated mostly with the following channels:Heart(36/14.88%),Liver(65/26.66%),Spleen(54/22.31%),Stomach(52/21.49%),Kidney(33/13.64%).Thai-Med literary search results in 27 articles selected,57 Thai-Med herbs used to treat jaundice. Most used herbs include:Myristica fragrans(Roudou Kou),Piper Nigrum(Shuguo Hujiao),Piper retrofractum(Jiabi Ba),Piper Nigrum(Shuguo Hujiao);Piper retrofractum(Jiabi Ba),Myristica fragrans(Roudou Kou);Piper retrofractum(Jiabi Ba),Myristica fragrans(Roudou Kou);Piper retrofractum(Jiabi Ba),Myristica fragrans(Roudou Kou);Piper Nigrum(Shuguo Hujiao);Piper retrofractum(Jiabi Ba)in Thai Traditional Medicine. There is a lack of research in the comparison between different traditional medicines, and the lack of viable comparison methods.Through the research focussing on comparing traditional medicine treatment methods on jaundice, revealed that there is a common approach in the treatment of jaundice. The results of this research study can be used to provide evidence and experience, and contribute in future study on individual and integrated traditional medicine researches.
