Human Resource management is the use of several activities to ensure that human resources are managed effectively for the benefit of the individual,society and the business.Researchers believe that effective human resources management helps the organization to create value and sustain it to achieve competitiveness in this demanding globalized environment.In this highly competitive environment,handling employees' right is not a choice for any organization but an obligation.Other studies have proven that the quality of workforce often determines the difference between success and failure of an organization.It is often contended that organizations with strong human resources management are able to attract,motivate and retain their employees;this provides them with advantages of high productivity,increase in performance & revenue and reduced attrition.Over time,the issue of leadership has remained an important factor for contemporary human resource management.It is believed that the type of leadership practices employed in an organization has a direct consequence on the performance of people,operations and projects in that organization.The sudden rise of business such as Microsoft,Apple,into global prominence is directly traced to the effectiveness and influence of effective leadership practices adopted by the company.The extent to which these issues are applicable in the context of the management of public institutions such as hospitals remains underexplored in the current literature especially in the case of Pakistan.Therefore the objective of this chapter is to explore the effect of ethical leadership on emotional intelligence of employees in the healthcare sector and its consequential effect on organizational commitment.The specific objectives were to evaluate employee's perception of ethical leadership among healthcare leaders in Pakistan and measure the perceived emotional intelligence among healthcare employees in Pakistan.The other objectives were to establish the significance in the relationship between ethical leadership and employee's emotional intelligence in Pakistan's healthcare sector,analyze the effect of employees' emotional intelligence on their level of commitment in the healthcare sector in Pakistan and make policy recommendations to enhance organization commitment through ethical leadership.The population of this research was made up of all persons employed in the healthcare sector in Pakistan especially the hospitals sector.An initial sample of 1205 respondents was sampled to fill a questionnaire from Lahore,Multan and Faisalabad in Punjab province.Out of this number,a total of 878 were received by the end of three months.These were later verified and validated for analysis.To measure the ethical leadership the study adopted predesigned constructs of ethical leadership.These are altruistic,egoistic,autonomous,legalist,and communitarian.Emotional intelligence was measured on five other dimensions namely self-awareness,self-regulation,social skills,empathy and motivation which are essential factors needed to work in the healthcare sector.The results of the analysis showed that leader's ethical leadership(altruistic behavior,egoistic and autonomous behavior)significantly influences employee's acquisition of strong emotional intelligence.It was also noted that the leader's legalistic and communitarian behaviors were equally significantly related to acquisition of strong emotional intelligence.Regarding the effect of employee's emotional intelligence on organizational commitment,the results of the study reveals that employees who acquire strong emotional intelligence as a result of ethical leaders demonstrate strong affective commitment.Similarly,healthcare employees who acquire strong emotional intelligence as a result of ethical leaders demonstrate strong normative commitment.The study also noted that employees who acquire strong emotional intelligence as a results of ethical leaders demonstrates strong continuance commitment...
