Research On Passive Design Strategies Of The Expo Building In South Of The Five Ridges Area

Architecture was created by mankind so as to protect ourselves from external damage caused by natural climate.Therefore,architecture has always adhered to a strict code of nature and leads to a peaceful coexistence with natural environment far from ancient towards modern times.As for the appearance and development of air conditioning,the operation code of architecture has changed by which architectural techniques that create man-made environment becomes main methods to solve weather problems.Isolation and opposition within architectural environment and natural environment has also been intensely discussed by more and more scholars.We start to question ourselves on how we live and how we behave since the aggravation of energy crisis and ecological damage.As a result,architecture that provides shelter for our living has been changing along with our behavior.The theory of passive system has excavated our potential awareness that architecture and nature should always be coexistent.By using modern scientific technique that objectively and rationally summarize the regular pattern between architecture and climate,a new opportunity that makes the development of architecture sustainable has been created,which also introduces a new train of thought to architectural design.According to the theory of passive system,architects can keep a perfect balance between architecture and climate properly by a series of techniques related to innate character and spaces of architecture.It has also been considered that we use least mechanical equipment to fulfill a comfortable environment within architecture.The South of the Five Ridges area,as one of the most region that bears its unique culture and geographical climate,has formed a specific architectural pattern which not only represents The South of the Five Ridges area culture but also adapts to its local humid condition.In the South of the Five Ridges area is also the most developed district of South China where citizens enjoy high quality and variety of public services.Therefore,exhibition becomes typical among other types of architecture.How to make architecture fit for specific local climate and represent local culture,how to make architecture comply with rules of energy conservation,and how to let architecture convey the spirit of environmental protection become the most valuable questions for architects of the time.This text is based on the research of the theory of passive system.By summarizing the characteristic of climate in The South of the Five Ridges area and the main forms of exhibition,the text discusses the applicability of the theory of passive system to architecture of exhibition in this region.By investigating on location planning,architectural structure and material of construction,the text concludes a series of passive ways that are applicable for architecture design of exhibition in the South of the Five Ridges area.This text is aimed at searching for a theoretical research method that is applicable for specific regional climate and specific passive system design in architecture,which shapes a flexible and open theoretical system.Using this theoretical system,architecture design utilizing passive system should be more standardized and architects of the time working on architecture of exhibition in The South of the Five Ridges area should be provided a new beneficial thought during ecological design and sustainable development.
