Practical education, a concept put forward to rectify the "trend of theory without practice" and the disadvantages of the "examination-oriented education", reflects the call of the times as well as the goal of the full development of the human-centered education. Over the decades, a large number of schools only focus their ideological and political education on imparting theoretical knowledge to students while ignoring the important role of practical education in the knowledge transfer process, which affects the effectiveness of ideological and political education. Practical education and theoretical education represent the two aspects of establishing high moral values during the same process of imparting knowledge. Therefore, the issue concerning how to strengthen the practice of college education, improve the relevance and effectiveness of ideological and political education, and truly realize the combination of theoretical education and practical education has become an important topic worthy of exploring in the field of ideological and political education.Contemporarily, college students are under the situation of rapid science and technology advancements together with the fierce international competition. The core of the international competition is the intellectual competition. In the new century, intellectual's cultivation demands the new generation to develop the innovative sense, the creative ability and the practice capability and to set up socialist core values, firm the ideal faith of socialism with Chinese characteristics so that they can adapt to the construction of modernization. For college students, there is a strong relationship between their cultivation of innovative sense, practice capability, and their practice education. Assume that he who doesn't acquire the practice capability, will he acquire the innovative sense? Therefore, the enhancement towards college students'practice education is of great significance with respect to the cultivation of College Students'innovative sense and practice capability, the development of builders and successors to the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the implementation of quality-orientation education and innovative education.In addition to the introduction, the present study is to be carried out according to the following procedures.To begin with, the author offers the definition of practice education. Corresponding to the theoretical education, practical education aims to realize the educational goal and teaching objective, and guide students to participate in various practice in and outside the college, in order to continuously improve their ideological awareness and constantly promote their all-round development. Meanwhile, the thesis elaborates the theoretical foundation of practical education for students from four aspects. Firstly, Marxist epistemology provides the philosophical basis for practical education, which stresses the importance of practical education from a philosophical angle; Secondly, Marxist practical view is the theoretical guidance for college students' practical education. Conducting practical education in college is the prerequisite to initiate the practical view of Marxism and foster "New Persons with Four Haves";, Thirdly, Marxist theory regarding the comprehensive development of human being is the theoretical foundation for practical education. Motivating and guiding college students to carry out practical education activities is the instantiation of the Marxism's theory in question. Fourthly, Marxist theory concerning the combination of education and productive labor is the theoretical basis of practical education. Under the new situation, practical education is a strong measure to implement the guideline of the converging education and productive labor as well as an effective way to simulate college students to follow the maxim of combining themselves with practice, and with workers and peasants.Next, the thesis explores the development of China's college practical education and investigates its transformation process after the foundation of New China, especially making a comprehensive review of the practical education of college students since the reform and opening up. In addition, the paper discusses the historical development of college practical education abroad.Then, the thesis summarizes six types of college practical education, namely social service-oriented practical education, social study-oriented practical education, labor service-oriented practical education, campus culture-oriented practical education, ideological and political theory-based practical education, and other types of practical education.In addition, from the overall situation of contemporary college students'practical education, the thesis sums up the basic experience in this regard since the reform and opening up. For more than30years, through personal participation in various forms of practical education activities, contemporary college education has made great achievements and accumulated valuable experiences. These experiences will further promote the development and practice of college education. In order to better understand the situation of contemporary college practical education, the author makes an empirical research. The statistical analysis of the survey data shows that there are still some realistic problems to be resolved urgently. Afterward, a deep analysis is given to account for what cause those problems.Lastly, aiming at the reasons and the problems mentioned above, the thesis sets out a strategy to strengthen and improve the practical education of college students. We propose to use the socialist core value system to lead the practice of contemporary college education, establish practical education theories and innovate its forms and content, and build a more scientific practical education system, so as to boost the long-term mechanical establishment of practical education and explore new ways of practical education in all directions. "Practice is more essential than paper." Both knowledge and competence come from practice. And quality needs to be cultivated in more practice. With only theoretical knowledge, contemporary college students cannot take the responsibility to serve the country and the society. To pursue the truth, they must practice. Only with the results of the knowledge put into practice, can the knowledge be transformed into real social productive forces. Only with the knowledge put into practice to analyze and solve problems, can the knowledge be absorbed, digested and improved. Therefore, we must organise and guide the college students to understand and participate in practive. By combining knowledge and practice together, the students can receive better education, gain more ability and make bigger contributions in practice.The practical education of contemporary college students is of great importance. It is an important part of the ideological and political education. it is also an effective way to implement the Party's education policy and to promote the comprehensive development of college students. Furthermore, in the process of forming college students' views of life, world and value, the practical education is a necessary complement to the theoretical education and hence plays an irreplaceable role in classroom teaching. In one word, practical education should be integrated into the entire stage of college education and created and developed continuously.
