Process And Mechanism Of Coupling Development Between Population Urbanization And Land Urbanization

Urbanization is a comprehensive development process involving multi-elements including population,society,economy and culture.Population urbanization and land urbanization are main patterns of manifestation as well as the important carrier of urbanization.However,with the accelerating advance of marketeconomy and transformation and upgrading of industrial structure,the contradiction between population and landuse accumulated during the process of urbanization in our country is getting prominent.Urbanization of population and landuse presents an ill-coordinating development pattern.Among all symptoms,the following ones are most evident:the rapid expansion of construction land in developed area;urbanization of landuse exceeding largely urbanization of population;labor force draining from the underdeveloped area;false urbanization and dual structure of urban and rural areas giving rise to so called "amphibious population" who occupy land both in urban and rural area.Therefore,to clarify the correlation between population urbanization and land urbanization,to understand its evolutionary process and interaction relationship has become a practical task requiring special concern in studies of urbanization in our country,which makes it an urgent science project demanding theoretical probe.According to system science,the process of urbanization presents as an evolutionary process of the mutual coupling of population urbanization and land urbanization.Their relationship could be mutual promoting and interdependent;on the other hand,it has its contradictory and conflicting aspect.For this reason,it is necessary to use geographic synthetically integrated thoughts;apply system scientific methods;take a multiple angle of qualitative and quantitative,resolving and composite,presentation and mechanism;proceed a systematic analysis on the spatial and temporal pattern,developing process,and mechanism of action of the population urbanization and land urbanization.This study not only owns definite theoretical value on probing the general process and coupling mode of population-land urbanization,but also possesses particular social application value in regulating and controlling the progress of population urbanization,curbing the expansion of urban construction land,and coordinating regional development.This study uses discipline theories such as urban geography,rural geography,land management as guidance;bases on a research route as"pattern-process-mechanism-regulation and control";integrates multi-source data including remote-sensing image,land utilization,urban and rural development and economic society;applies multiple research techniques including GIS spatial analysis,mathematical statistics,fractal model;focuses on the evolution pattern,coupling process and mechanism of the population-land urbanization in Jiangsu province from 1991 to 2010.The study contains the following six chapters:Chapter 1:introduction.This part discusses the background of the coupling research on population-land urbanization;defines the research object;teases out the approaches and goals of research;introduces the contents and methods of the study;and describes in detail of the research data and its source.Chapter 2:an overview on correlational studies both at home and abroad.This part covers the correlational studies on population urbanization,correlational studies on land urbanization,relationship research on population-land urbanization,and application of coupling theory and mode on urbanization studies.All these studies provide reference and examples for my research.Chapter 3:the evolution pattern of population-land urbanization in Jiangsu province.Based on city statistical yearbooks,surveydata of change of land parcel,city annual statistical reports,we adopt methods such as GIS spatial analysis,mathematical analysis,comparative study to analyze the spatial pattern and the features of the evolution of population-land urbanization in Jiangsu province.The rapid development of the population urbanization in Jiangsu triggers the alteration in urban system construction.Civil and industrial landuse promotes the fast increase of land urbanization.The spatial pattern of population-land urbanization presents evident differentiation:in southern Jiangsu area,the pattern is polycentric network structured city-group development;in central Jiangsu area,an axis development along the rivers and highways;in northern Jiangsu area,monocentric polarization development.Chapter 4:the coupling process of population-land urbanization in Jiangsu province.While analyzing the process of population-land urbanization,it presents as Logistic curve mode.Base on the changes of rate of rise of population-land urbanization,we conduct phase division accordingly.Using allometric growth mode to evaluate the allometric growth coefficient of population-land urbanization in different phases,we obtain a general process of population-land urbanization.Through the study of the increase index of population-land urbanization and the change features of elastic coefficient of the urban landuse in provincially administered municipalities and county-level cities in different areas,we divide them into four types:central type,collecting type,balance type and transient type.Combining with the general process of population-land urbanization and its coupling mode,we sum up the coupling development phases of provincially administered municipalities and county-level cities.Chapter 5:the coupling mechanism of population-land urbanization in Jiangsu province.Based on AR mode,we conduct a quantitative evaluation on the interaction relationship between population-land urbanization,and analyze the changing situation of the interaction relationship from the phases,mode,background,assembling,transferring and hysteresis effect of the urbanization development.Then we build the framework of the coupling system of population-land urbanization.We conclude that the driving forces of coupling development are social force,market force and administration force.Based on the coupling development mode of population-land urbanization,we summarize the manifestation on three main driving forces of coupling development dynamic mechanism of population-land urbanization in different areas with various economic conditions.Finally,combining coupling development mode and the dynamic mechanism mode of population-land urbanization in different areas with various economic conditions,we choose some type areas to do the further study of inner mechanism of population-land urbanization coupling development.Chapter 6:policy regulation measures.According to regional difference in population-land urbanization coupling development in Jiangsu province,we propose relevant policy suggestions on population urbanization,land urbanization,and regional planning and coordination.The innovation points of the study lie on two main parts:one is that the study goes beyond the simple perceptual cognizance of the fact population developing faster than landuse;pursues a systematic research on population-land urbanization coupling development.The second is that the study makes an in-depth research on the process and mechanism of population-land urbanization coupling development;reveals the general process of population-land urbanization coupling development;summarizes the dynamic mechanism mode of population-land urbanization coupling development under the stress of three main driving forces as in social force,market force and administration force.
