A Study Of Health-preservation Culture Undertakings In Taoist Temples

Taoist Health-preservation Culture(THC)has important practical value.In present time,the Health-preservation resources of Taoism culture are precious spiritual wealth of China and even of mankind.We find in the study of THC that Taoist organizations have gradually realized the excellent value of Taoist cultural resources,and began to organize some sporadic THC activities.Among them,Qianyuan Temple of Maoshan Mountain in Changzhou held the first "Touch of Tao" activity in 2013,and since then has held “adults’ classes” for 8 times,“children’s classes” for 3 times,“ladies’ classes” for 1 time.So far it is the temple who does non-profit THC the most systematically in China.In addition,Lao-tzu College in Longhushan Mountain has run a non-charity “Inedia” activity for a long time.From the year 2014,many Taoist temples are keen to hold summer camps which always take THC as a necessary item to attract participants.These temples set up a variety of THC programs,covering almost all aspects of THC.Limited by their own conditions,and considering long summer vacation,most temples favorite summer vocation to hold these activities,thus also can promote and develop Taoist culture in a relatively convenient way.This form can do very good promotion in a short term,but it also needs to be recognized that Taoist Health-preservation is a set of high techniques both in body health and psychological health.If there is not enough devotion for an extended period and without characteristic activities for own,it is hard to believe that the “summer vocation” model can promote the Taoist culture effectively and let publics learn the truth of THC.In addition,compared with Taoist temples,more commercial institutionsrun Taoist Health-preservation activities.These institutions almost are used to carrying out a variety of gimmicks to attract people.This kind of items’ quality is of strong variance,and it is difficult to carry forward the role of excellent health-preservation resources under the driving of commercial interests.Religious Taoism,as a body of the most abundant history in health-preservation’s theory and practice,if it does not make effective use of this precious wealth from our ancestors,not only cannot play its role properly for Chinese people and even global people,but also cannot promote Taoist culture itself,thus it will make great loss in THC undertakings.Through abundant investigation,this study considers that Taoism is rich and systematic in THC resources,both in theory resources and practical means,which are of terrific value.However,Religious Taoism has not yet fully realized the significance of Taoist Health-preservations resources for the religion’s future development.Therefore,within the religion,very few temples run THC undertakings.And even in these few temples there are many problems,such as lack of subject consciousness and THC professionals.This paper argues that,if the religion is interested in developing THC undertakings,two aspects should be considered from macro perspective: First,government must fully respect Taoism temples’ dominant role in the development of THC undertakings,giving them related legal rights;Second,great value of HTC resources must be carefully surveyed to explore and consummate many problems in the development of THC undertakings.
