As an ancient capital of three dynasties, there are countless cultural relics distributing on the ground. Temple is the unique one of these relics, and not only records our history but also burdens the cultural symbols. In the course of enclosure movement which is happing rapidly during the course of urbanization, how about the current situation of these ancient Buddhist temples? Especially the quantity of temple in Peking outnumbers that of any other city in our country; they are the unique treasure of a city, while it also needs persistent investment for protection. In the name of reconstructing the old city, these old temples are apt to be ruined. No matter to use, reconstruct or rebuild, the foremost thing we can do is to protect, because all relics are unrecoverable.Nowadays the consciousness of preservation of cultural relics is strengthening, but the protecting policy and legislation still need to be enhanced. Some temples are occupying as residence due to the historical issue, some are run by personal corporations, and some are reconstructed as museums or scenic spots. That the non-governmental organizations join into protecting procession is a trend, but kind of chaotic now. Of recent years, our government had invested significant capital into renovating those old buildings, we have seen the tumbledown buildings regain its' vigor, still, we question some of those measures had taken. |
