Nowadays,the relationship between image and history has been increasingly valued.The history is recorded in the image;the image becomes the medium of historical memory.Compared with the traditional text of historical recording,image documentary and exhibition of historical content can always retain more historical details and the emotional factors in these details.It not only presents a comprehensive historical memory,but also possesses certain visual political characteristics.This paper discusses the unique value of anti-Japanese war documentary images as the image data in history recording.It studies and analyzes the relationship between the creation process of the anti-Japanese war documentary images and many other factors,such as the historical background,the historiography conception,the environment of politics and economy,and the development of media technology.The paper also responds the questions such as how the anti-Japanese War documentary images contributed to the historical narration and the memory construction of this war.Besides the introduction,the main body of the thesis consists of five chapters,the specific contents are as following:The first chapter mainly focuses on the practice and works of Anti-Japanese War photography.Documentary photography,in that period,has the great humanity power and realistic documentary spirit,as well as the potential to promote the great social change.Shown by the photography works and practical experiences of Dazeng Fang,Mingjing Sun and other photographers,Chinese realism photographers deeply combined the photography and war with the background of suffering the invasion;they recorded the process of Japanese invasion against China,and added the Anti-war background,national sentiment,and patriotism into the style of Anti-Japanese war photography.Therefore,Anti-Japanese War photography in this period has become a carrier of national historical emotion and a memory medium,and it also well constructed the historical memory of the Anti-Japanese War.The main content of the second chapter is the study of the creation and the influence of the Anti-Japanese War documentary in KMT-controlled areas.This content analyzes the Anti-Japanese War documentaries recorded by National Government,the Left polities and overseas personages to figure out these documentaries' roles in war spread and public opinion guidance.These documentaries recorded the reality of the aggression of Japan,the reaction of China,and effectively raised the people's enthusiasm of resistance as well as the belief that China would certainly win.The overall construction of the historical image and documentary of the Anti-Japanese War has the outstanding literature value and cognitive functions for comprehensively viewing and deeply researching the relevant historical process.The third chapter focuses on the research of the Jinchaji Pictorial under the command of The Chinese Communist Partyand and the activities of Anti-Japanese War In Yan'an Film Group.The Jinchaji Pictorial and the documentary image in Anti-Japanese War of Yan'an Film Group effectively contributed to the work of dissemination such as encouraging to fight the invasion.The Anti-Japanese War background,the leading of party,and the political ideology affected the style of the base area creation and formed the “Red Documentary” with special Chinese characteristics.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,they produced a profound influence to the development of the mainstream photography,expressed the clear visual politics feature.The fourth chapter is mainly about the Anti-Japanese War documentaries created by Central Studio of News Reels Production and CCTV after 1949.During this period,the creation of the Anti-Japanese War documentary was obviously branded with specific politics,culture and ideology.It shows a complex and abundant relation with its time of creation.Then the chapter analyzes how the changing process of the theme,form,and style of Anti-Japanese War documentaries from different times reflects the historical narration and memory reconstruction from the perspective of nation,culture and oral memory in various degrees.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the whole thesis,which mainly discusses the problem in spreading and creating the contemporary documentary of Anti-Japanese war.The main value of creating contemporary documentary is making people objectively face the facts of the war and reflecting.The main value of spreading it is constructing historical memory and achieving historical identification.Because of the potential value and cultural significance of the Anti-Japanese War documentary in expanding historical narration and reconstructing historical memory,related creators should fully express the understanding and the respect to the relevant history,and reappear the history as real as possible,to build a historical memory with long vitality.
