The Differences Between The Large-character Editions Of Essential Prescriptions From The Golden Cabinet And The Small-character Editions And Studying On The Construction And Syndrome Of Wen Jing Tang

Cabinet Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet is the section of the Shanghan Zabing Lun on miscellaneous diseases which was written by Zhang Zhongjing, an Eastern Han Dynasty era physician. Now, some editions of Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet exist, the famous editions are Deng Zhen edition, the Zhao Kaimei edition, these are authorized as large-character editions.In 2007, “Ming hong wu chao ben Jinguiyaoluefang” known as the “Wu Qian Edition” was investigated at Shanghai library. This book is authorized as a small-character editions. I will compare the words in large-character books and that in small-character book, and the represent the difference of them about the construction of Wen jing tang.Purpose: Studying about differences between the Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet small-character edition and the large-character editions. In Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet furen zabing part of large character editions, pinellia ternata is included in the recipe for Wen Jing Tang, but the small-character Edition omits pinellia ternata from the recipe for Wen Jing Tang. There is the problem that the recipe for Wen Jing Tang needs pinellia ternata or not. This thesis will conduct the problem to use the way of philology and theory.Method: Using the way of philology and theory, I will analyze famous editions of Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet. By referring to the explanations and commentaries of famous historical doctors, the ancient medical text the Inner Canon of Huangdi, and the other classical medical literature, this thesis will explain the pathology of the disorders treated by Wen Jing Tang.Result: Comparing Wu Qian Edition and the Deng Zhen edition, there are lots of difference in words, recipe for medicines, quantity of herbs, the way to simmer medicines. Among these discrepancies was the particular discovery that the Wu Qian Edition omits pinellia ternata from the recipe for Wen Jing Tang which is written in large-character editions. Reffering to clarify the pathology of the disorders treated by Wen Jing Tang, It is thought the underlying causes of all the symptoms are disturbance in astringency and sternness of Yang-ming gold Qi, i.e. Lung-Qi, and flatulence of Yang-ming earth Qi, i.e. Stomach-Qi leading to un-circulation of Qi and disorders of coming in and going out of both Yin Qi and Yang Qi.According to mechanism of applying Pinellia ternate in Huangdi's Canon of Internal Medicine, Pinellia ternate has effects of tonifyingQi and adjusting Yin and Yang, which is considered to have the ability to resolve stagnation of Yang-Qi, helping Yang-Qi to enter in Yin location to further transform and generate Yin-Qi, thus regulating balance between amounts of Yin and Yang to treat Yin-Yang obstruction. In historical annotations by physicians of past generations for Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet, it is also believed that Pinellia ternate has actions in relieving stagnated heat, recovering astringency and sternness of Yang-ming gold Qi, and descending Yang-ming earth Qi to help in Yin-Yang coming in and going out. Pinellia ternate, which is an indispensable inmeridian-warming(Wen Jing Tang) decoction, is used to regulate Yin-Yang and smooth Yin-Yang, which pathologically due to dysfunction of Yang-ming gold Qi and Yang-ming earth Qi resulting in stagnated heat and obstructed Yin-Yang in and out.In manuscript of Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet by Song Qian(a physician in Song dynasty), Pinellia ternate was not recorded in formula of Wen Jing Tang decoction, which was much likely omitted when private copies were made from one person to another.Conclusion: Now Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet does not exist so many. Ming hong wu chao ben Jinguiyaoluefang is the small-character edition of Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet, studying small-character edition has important value for philology. There is lots of difference between Large-character edition and small-character edition, especially the recipe for Wen Jing Tang. the Wu Qian Edition omits pinellia ternata from the recipe for Wen Jing Tang. That is a mistake when the book was written. The recipe for Wen Jing Tang needs pinellia ternate.
