Make classification statistic on prescriptions in volume 2 and 3 of Central Treasury Canon from different point of views and summarize their charactersFirst, classify the seventy-three prescriptions in the volume 2 and 3 of Central Treasury Canon.(1)Classify according to treatments. The seventy-two prescriptions, excluding Wan Ying Yuan, can be classified into internal medical prescriptions, surgical prescriptions, emergent prescriptions and gynecologial prescriptions. It is found that surgery and emergency prescriptions constitute a large proportion,accounted for 62.5%. (2) Classify according to how many herbs in each prescription. It is found that prescriptions within six herbs accounted for 80.9%, which means the prescriptions of Central Treasury Canon are very succinct. (3) Classify according to dosage forms. It is found that forms powder, pill and paste accounted for91.8%, which means most prescriptions are patent medicines. (4) Classification found that routes of administration are various.(5) Classification found that administrations are very exquisite.Second, classify the herbs involved in the seventy-three prescriptions. (1) Classify the a hundred and eighty-four kinds of herbs according to material medical book which they first appeared. It is found that formation age of some of these books were late. (2) Merge the same herbs that appeared in different names. It is calculated that there are a hundred and seventy-three kinds of herbs in Central Treasury Canon. The most frequently used herbs are: wine, rhubarb, cinnabar and vinegar.(3) Classify the herbs according to their natural attribute and functions. It is found that plant herbs and supplementing herbs account for a large proportion.Third, the prescriptions that contain unknown functional herbs and poison herbs such as mercury, calomel, lead were excluded. The left fifty-one prescriptions were analyzed according to Dictionary of Chinese medicine in order to find out the reasonable principles of making prescriptions. And those prescriptions which had no reasonable principles were pointed out. This paper is a basic theory research on Central Treasury Canon. It provides a platform for the research on Central Treasury Canon in the future. Sincerely hope the summarization and analysis on the character of selecting herbs and making prescriptions of Central Treasury Canon would bring about a new thinking to the modern clinical treatment of Chinese medicine.
