It is the responsibility and obligation of government and society to provide good barrier-free environment for all people with reduced mobility. At present, there has not formed systematic and convenient riding environment in China, thus resulting in few wheelchair users(WUs)travelling by trains. This seriously restricts the normal travel and participation in the social life of the disabled populations. In order to change the status quo mentioned above as well as unify and standardize the passenger interface design of wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed train coaches,it is particularly urgent and important to study the barrier-free design theory and design reference data of high-speed trains which would confirm with China’s national conditions and Chinese body parameters. In this paper, the issues involved in the passenger interface design of wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed train coaches were further studied, mainly including the studies on the system characteristics of WUs,on the behaviors and key therbligs of WUs riding high-speed trains,on the layout design of wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed trains, and on the visual human factors simulation analysis and optimal design of the passenger interface design scheme of wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed trains.Firstly, the rail human factors were studied from a perspective of industrial design, and the user-centered industrial design principles and design issues of high-speed trains were clearly summarized. Thus this paper discussed and summarized the course of emergence and development, service populations, the design contents and the fundamental principle of barrier-free design for passenger interface of high-speed train;as one of the important contents of industrial design of high-speed trains,as well as proposed that the study contents of barrier-free design for passenger interface of high-speed trains included not only the problems of disabilities themselves but also the accessible problems of the train entrance as well as the matching between the disabilities and interior environment of trains.Simultaneously, the posture theory of barrier-free design for passenger interface of high-speed trains was investigated, and then it was proposed that the posture theory was used for the studies on the posture of WUs riding high-speed trains. Moreover, this paper summarized the technologies and methods related to our study, such as behavior observation, motion capture, myoelectrical experiment, etc.,and then proposed that the Observer XT,Motion Capture System and MA300 EMG System were used for relevant experiment studies. The "wheelchair-users combination,WUC" was proposed by the study on the relationship among the WUs,nursing staffs(NSs),and wheelchairs(Ws).Then the WUC was divided into "WUs-Ws-NSs" system and "WUs-Ws" system according to the difference in the self-care abilities of WUs.Furthermore, this paper also put forward two concepts of"instrumental auxiliary ability" and "service auxiliary ability" as well as that the comprehensive abilities of WUs were the incorporation of their own abilities, instrumental auxiliary abilitites and the service auxiliary abilities by the study on the characteristics of all the components in this system.Secondly,if the passengers can smoothly finish riding high-speed train, the comprehensive abilities of passengers should be not less than the basic abilities required for riding.Namely, the comprehensive abilities of passengers should meet the basic abilities required to ride. Thus, this study proposed the mathematical matching equation among all the abilities related to the riding by high-speed trains of disabilities, deduced and finally obtained that it was the highest goal for the barrier-free design theory of passenger interface of high-speed trains as well as the most ideal passenger interface that the disabilities could complete all the riding tasks by trains without any help of instrumental or service auxiliary ability. In order to clearly determine the behaviors, key therbligs, physiological load of the main parts for application of force and the influence on the other passengers of the WUs as riding high-speed trains, the video transcribing equipment and the Observer XT were used to design and conduct the experiment to observe the behaviors of WUs riding high-speed trains. Then the riding tasks, behaviors and the disturbance to the other passengers were analyzed and obtained.Furthermore, based on the time series,twenty-three key therbligs of the WUs as riding high-speed trains were obtained according to the task-behavior-therblig hierarchical decomposition model proposed in this paper.Likewise, this study used the Motion Capture System and MA300 EMG System for the motion capture and myoelectrical test, and then obtained sixteen therbligs motion capture data and nine therbligs myoelectricity data. These data can provide the basis for objectively evaluating the typical action and load of WUs in the process of their riding tasks.Thirdly, this study put forward the Demand model of the passengers with reduced mobility riding high-speed trains, the Accessible passageway model of the accessible coaches and the Basic layout model of the wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed train coaches by studying the basic demand, riding passageway, and riding convenience of Chinese-based WUs riding high-speed trains according to the Chinese body parameters. In addition, this study deduced and obtained the theoretically optimal layout of the wheelchair accessible zone in the high-speed train coaches by combining some factors, such as physiological load of main force application parts to complete key therbligs, the difficulty to complete key therbligs, influence on the other passengers, and so on,according to the distribution of key therbligs in the barrier-free passageway. The equipment and software in this study were integrated, the Visual human factors simulation analysis platform(VHFSAP)was constructed, and then the detailed configuration scheme of VHFSAP was given.Based on this platform, this study also built systematic digital model of virtual WUs according with Chinese body parameters and key therbligs model data bases, generated sixteen core therbligs size data.Taking the wheelchair accessible zone in a high-speed train coaches as an example, this study conducted the visual human factors simulation analysis and optimal design on this platform as well as verified the validity and practicability of the platform according to the visual analysis and optimal design flow of high-speed train design scheme and the study findings in this paper. Finally, based on the achievements and related literatures in this paper, many proposals for the passenger interface design of wheelchair accessible zone in high-speed train coaches were put forward.
