A new method using ultrasound to test the concentration of coal slime water was put forward after being analysed the shortages of the methods commonly used. The transmission characteristics and attenuation mechanism of ultrasonic in coal slime water were studied in detail. The experiment scheme of testing concentration was designed. The influences of bubble, frequency of transducers, particle size, coal slime water concentration, temperature, coal samples on acoustic attenuation were studied. The acoustic attenuation in coal slime water has been calculated based on several typical acoustic attenuation models in suspension, and the testing model of coal slime water concentration based on ultrasonic was established by using the multiple regression method, and the model was proved to be correct. The testing system using ultrasonic to test concentration of coal slime water was designed, and the system was proved to be effective according to the experimental results. The feasibility of coal slime water concentration testing via ultrasonic was studied based on theoretical analysis and experiments, providing reliable support for developing the apparatus.
