Study Of ZhongXiang Dialect

Zhongxiang City situated in the center of Hubei Province. Zhongxiang dialect belongs to Southwestern Mandarin. There are some differences among Zhongxiang dialect according to different region, especially on phonetic aspect. The dissertation choose Yingzhong’s pronunciation system as the object of study. The first part of the dissertation describes the pronunciation system and its distinguishing features according to field investigation, and then contrasts it with Beijing’s and mid-ancient’s pronunciation system respectively. Part two is about the dialect’s vocabulary, studying its distinguishing features on three different aspects:the features of word-building; lexical gaps; and special words. Part three does the research of grammar, including morphology and syntax. Furthermore, at the end of every part, there is a dialect corpus collected by field investigation, including homophone, classification words list, and grammar examples. All of these are supporting dialect materials for the study.
