In the context of globalization, knowledge and information, with the approaching of theinternationalization of higher education, some aspects like methods of teaching and learning,demand and set-up of environment facilities, varieties of the behavioral patterns of the universitystudents, demand of the society have been changing dynamically, the campus landscape willchange as well. These changes brought new challenge to campus planning and construction,which required earnest investigation and discussion of the designers. The development of highereducation in China has a long history and campus landscape has been developing as outdoorlocations for education. Research on China’s campus landscape can promote the inheritance ofcampus contexts while research on that of western countries can absorb the essence and constructthe campus landscape of China.This paper was divided into four parts to explain:The first part was putting forward the question and the study of the concept: in the firstchapter of introduction, the paper discussed the origin of the topic by the analysis of theincrement of the university students and colleges&universities, educational function of thecampus landscape, development of university campus in the useful reference and comparison.Based on the relative theory of domestic and abroad, the paper summarized the research contents,methods, concepts and the theoretic frame.The second part was the analysis of campus landscape of China and western countries: thesecond chapter studied the campus landscape in the western universities, including the origin,formation and development of campus landscape in the ancient western universities. Besides, thepaper studied the campus landscape of representative universities from Italy, France, UK,Germany and USA with the transferring of the world educational center. The third chapterconcluded the features and trends of landscape by combing the representative campus landscapesin the different periods of Chinese universities.The third part was classification and summary: the fourth chapter summarized the objectiveand subjective factors which influence the university campus landscape. The fifth chapterclassifies the elements of landscape creation to conclude the forms and features of the terrain,water, plants, environment facilities and sculptures. The sixth chapter analyzed the intention ofcampus landscape from the path, edge, district, node and sign in accordance with theclassification of urban intention. The seventh chapter summarized the spatial layout and types ofthe university campus landscape.The fourth part was summary: the eighth chapter was the case practice based on analysis andsummary, including the campus landscape planning and design in each of a western and Chineseuniversity. The ninth chapter summarized the developing trend and concluded the developingtrend for campus landscape of useful reference of city planning theory, functional diversification,ecology, urbanization, interaction, internationalization, tourism, suspension and disaster prevention by comparing the differences between the campus landscape between the westernuniversities and Chinese universities through theory and practice.The paper put forward the idea that the university campus landscape was developed in thecomparison and the useful reference by analysis and comparison of the work of relative theoryand practical experience in the construction of university campus landscape planning in thedomestic and abroad.
