The Architecture Of Modern Times In Taiyuan Under The Influence Of The Chinese And Western Cultures

With the invading of capitalism in the west, the rising of the westernization movement and the emerging of nation capitalism, the architectural pursuits appeared in Taiyuan and the new architectural form was born after the 19 century seventies. A new turn in the architecture of modern times in Taiyuan was in full swing under the influence of both the Chinese and Western cultures.On the one hand, it was the continuation of the traditional architectural culture, On the other hand, it was owing to the speading of the architectural culture in the west.The main stream of the architectural development in taiyuan was shaped with the collision, intersect and mixing of these two artivities.This paper focuses on the buildings of modern times in the urban districts of Taiyuan. From the angles of the architectural history and theory, the studies by stages are carried out according to building events and historical events after looking up, rearraging, analyzing the related materials and on-the spot inverstigation. some research and analysis are made on the changes and developments of the external forms of construction and local traditional architecture at varied stages.In accordance with types of buildings, such as religious buildings, industrial buildings, government buildings, school buildings, commercial buildings and residential buildings, the relative materials are sorted out in a systematic way and two buildings put up in the developing stage are surveyed and wapped. Finally two visiting routes of modern buildings have been set up.The Research of Taiyuan modern Architecture reveals the dissemination and integration process of the external architectural culture in Taiyuan,and provides a thought to studying the Chinese and Western cultural exchange of architecture in Taiyuan area. The architectural development is a tipical example to Chinese inland cities. Its research offers reference to the development of the inland cities on the development of modern architecture. It can help do the research on building in Taiyuan through summarizing and analysing the existing information and the collection of basic condition of Taiyuan buildings.
