Research On Discipline Construction Of Landscape Architecture In Chinese Colleges And Universities Based On Postgraduate Education

With the overall development of social economy and the increasing prosperity of Landscape Architecture education, China unfolds a great upsurge in developing Landscape Architecture disciplines. Those colleges and universities as the main positions in the development of Landscape Architecture disciplines play a decisive role. Especially in recent years, scientific research institutions continuously strengthen their school dimensions, bringing in teachers and personnel training, and the number of scientific research achievements grows with each passing day.Researches have been done about those institutions with Landscape Architecture-related disciplines for this paper. Analysis made on the situation and existing problems of Landscape Architecture construction by analyzing and comparing each target of disciplines development of 14 well-known institutions with Landscape Architecture degree authority from 2004 to 2008, and AHP evaluation models were built. There are statistics and ranking of the level of discipline development in these 14 institutions, combined with the status and characteristics of the Landscape Architecture this paper contains some suggestions about the development of Landscape Architecture construction in the future for reference.The main conclusions of this paper were as follows:(1) There are great differences between each institution on disciplines background, school size, structure of teachers, teaching model and any other aspects. Problems are continuing without end, such as low status, lack of independence sub-discipline, low conversion rate of academy, imperfect training pattern and shortage of teachers. (2) According to the comprehensive evaluation of colleges and universities with Landscape Architecture degree authority, the ranking of score was as follows:Beijing Forestry University> Huazhong Agricultural University> Nanjing Agricultural University> Tongji University> Nanjing Forestry University> Sichuan Agricultural University> China Agricultural University> Peking University > Huazhong University of Science and Technology> South China Agricultural University> South China University of Technology> Tsinghua University> Southeast University> Sichuan University. (3) Agricultural and forestry universities have higher scores compared with science and engineering universities and multiversities. Most of them both have Landscape Plant and Ornamental Horticulture and Urban Planning and Design, with whole educational scale and research field. While LA discipline of science and engineering universities and multiversities always placed under Urban Planning and Design. The development of discipline is restricted. (4) Through rethinking about existing problems, we try to get some measures to develop LA discipline, such as developing and increasing the quantity of discipline, the frequency of appearance, the quality of teachers and graduates and proving good academic atmosphere. We hope to help for experts and scholars who are seeking a reasonable developing way of Landscape Architecture construction.
