Ternary optical computer (TOC) is a new type unique computer in researchingnow. Today it has been known that the major characteristics of the new computer areits numerous data bits, reconfiguration and three-valued logic optical processor (OP).According to its specialty the optical computer will be very suitable to calculate thelarge data or the numerous data. With the advance of TOC’s theory and hardware,the research about its ground layer software is noticed more and more. Now thoseresearches are focusing on a program of controlling the reconstruction of each databit of the OP, a manager for multi-task sharing the OP, a communication between theTOC and the electronic computer, a high-level programming languages environmentand a way to blend the TOC into a super computer. In view of the TOC’s novelty,those software researches are all unprecedented. It is obvious that task managementsoftware (TMS) of TOC, as a foundation, is necessary for all software researches. So,the TMS has become a hot studying point of the TOC.Based on the preliminary study of team members, the author has lucubrated onthe TOC’s TMS since2010. In this dissertation the main achievements related withTMS’s study are proposed, which include establishing the overall architecture of theTMS, the management strategy, the interaction mechanism with TOC’s hardware andconversation method with the user’ program. On this basis, an original TMS of theTOC is designed, achieved and tested. Some tests are done in the TOC simulator andthe results show that the operation stability and the expected goal of the TMS areachieved.The main contributions in this paper are described as follows.1. An overall architecture design of the original TMS of TOC is completed, itsdata flow depicted and each module’s function design completed.2. A data file exchange protocol for TOC, i.e. SZG file format, is established,the interface technology between the TMS and TOC hardware is set up, and a conversation method which includes state flag and computing registration formbetween the TMS and the user’s program is defined.3. Some main function modules, such as the multi-user calculation request, databits allocation, and processor reconstruction, are implemented. An executable basicsystem of the TMS was formed and tested.
