Due to the high symbol rate and high parallelism characteristics of light, opticalcomputing has many natural advantages over electronic computing, thus lots ofscholars all over the world continue to do their research in this field. With thecontinuous development of optical computers, our research group is increasinglypromoting the thousand-bit ternary optical computer system and the use in numericaladdition operations is quite mature. However, how to further exploit thecharacteristics and advantages of light in multiplication using the giant data bits,high parallelism of ternary optical computer is not mentioned, and this is what thispaper studies and discusses.Based on existing ternary optical computer system theory and combined thebasic principle of multiplication, this article analyzes and does research on the keytechnologies of constructing dedicated multipliers of ternary optical computer.Meanwhile, this article gives out new ideas and approaches of making multipliers.The main works and innovation points are as follows:(1) Through the discussion of multiplication process, this article designs andanalyzes the scheme of reducing the number of partial products, therefore cuttingdown the costs of accumulation of partial products while designing effectivemultiplier.(2) Propose and construct one-step adder which supports all input symbols,two-step adder using symmetrical MSD numbers. Compared with the traditionalthree-step adder, these adders obviously enhance and improve the efficiency ofadding process. As a result, this paper gives out methods of realizing multipliersbased on these two kinds of adders.(3) This paper provides data storage and division scheme of the data feedbackstrategy which increases the efficiency of numerical computation. Also, this specificdata storage area guarantees that the addition operation is an automatic and continuous process with high data throughput rate.(4) The experiment in this paper verifies the key technologies mentioned, andproves that the theory and mechanism proposed is correct and feasible.
