A Research On Ecological Services System Of Library User Demand

Library user demand has always been the focus of research in the field ofLibrary and Information as scholars have realized the importance of this issue longago. For a long time, under the influence of literature resources as the core concept,combined with the hindrance of library based thinking seriously, especially under theenvironment of having more enthusiastic in technology research in academia, seemsto be considered that if the technical problems were solve, we could solve all theproblems of the Library, and the library has been focusing on the self-building andtechnology development and application, therefore the user demand did not be reallyimplemented. In the wake of the profound change of external environment of library,as well as the intensification of the trend of decentration and eliminating theprofession in library, the library gradually began to strengthen the research on userdemand. The research paper which as the main content of user demand have sprungup, user-centric, philosophy of user demand-oriented gradually become the consensusof the scholars, and related study plays the more important role in the research. Theresearch of user demand has entered a new phase.However, there are also many deficiencies and weaknesses in current research. Firstly,Basic research is relatively weak, depth study of user demand in the view of system islacking, and more recognized theoretical framework of the user demand research islacking. Secondly, the essential research of library user demand is lacking, thepertinence, systemic, depth, continuity of research needs to be strengthened. Thirdly,the relationship between user demand and the library is the most basic, common, andwidespread relationship which be showed as human using the library to productinformation activities. Starting from this relationship, the most scientific way ofthinking should be to analyze the simplest phenomenon which reveals the laws oflibrarianship and its related activities, and to explore the nature of the problem and itscauses. However, the current research is general lack of user demand as a logicalstarting point, giving more attention of how to obtain the user’s needs, meet customerneeds, but rarely consider of the generation, atrophy, disappear, transfer, spillovers,diffusion and competition of user demand. Also the research of the environment of the user and user demand is relatively weak. Base on the theory of demand andecology perspective, this paper discuses the library users niche demand theory, theinteraction between library user demand populations, library users demand functionof the ecological chain positioning, and the balanced development concept of libraryuser demand ecosystem services. Then a library user demand for ecosystem serviceshas been built, and practice theoretical basis and decision support has been providedin this paper.Content and main conclusions of this paper are as follows:I. According to user demand as a logical starting point for researchThe relationship between user demand and the library is the most basic, mostcommon, common kind of relationship which showed by human being when using ofthe library to do generate information activities. Starting with this relationship, themost scientific way of thinking should be to analyze the simplest phenomenon whichreveals the laws of librarianship and its related activities, and to explore the nature ofthe problem and its causes. This paper argues that the user demand could be thelogical starting point of the study of library user demand, which also study the libraryecosystem services from the user demand.II.There is the spillover phenomenon of library user demandSpillover of library user demand: When there are the differences between libraryservices and user needs, the user will actively find a new service provider, or resortdemand to the new service provider, in this way other libraries will be influenced.Library users demand spillovers should be paid attention reasonably in library usersdemand ecosystem services.By the calculation of the Library of ecological carryingcapacity, library users demand spillover should be guided reasonably, and user needscould be reached indeed rather than being confined by the library monopoly, or shrinkor even demise the user needs due to the lack of service.III.Defining the ecology of library users demand service systemThe future work of library would be directed by measuring if the library servicesystem is ecological, through this, the library could improve and narrow the gap withother libraries. Ecology of library service system should be measured from the followpoints, such as ecological civilization construction of the library, ecological sustainability of library services, biological diversity of user requirements,biodiversity-friendly ecological environment, ecological carrying capacity, guide andcombining ability of library service to the user demand, the harmonious coexistenceand the developmental competition between the populations, and the system role offunctions positioning.IV.Formation of library user demand ecological services systemIn this part, the main body of ecosystem services of library user demand,environment of library users demand ecosystem services system and ecologicalservices chain of library users demand is discussed.V.The functional dimensions of library users demand ecological service systemFunctional dimensions of library user demand ecological services systemincludes6parts: providing ecological services, improving relations, achieving ahealthy and efficient information flow, guiding function of user needs, achieving thebinding capacity of the ecological chain, keeping the balance of library users demandecological services systems.VI.Binding capacity of library users demand ecological service chainThe binding capacity of the ecological chain is the connection with the user, userneeds, the library, information resources of library, knowledge, technology, institutionof library system, libraries, librarians, library services, and the ecological servicessystem will be formed reasonably. It would maintain the coordination and matchingof system, improve the stability and cohesion of system, and make the systemdevelop more orderly. Furthermore, giant fluctuation will be emerged when reach thecritical point, system could develop in a higher level. Binding capacity of libraryusers demand ecological service chain conclude five parts: binding capacity betweenuser and demand, binding capacity between demand and library services, bindingcapacity between service and library, binding capacity between library andknowledge.On this basis, the future competition between the libraries is actually the competitionin the resources of the user and demand which based on the binding capacity of theecosystem services chain. VII.Balance of library user demand ecological services systemBalance of library user demand ecological services system can be summarized asthe following four aspects: the balance between internalization and externalization ofservice, the balance between the main bodies of library users demand ecologicalservices system, the balance between user demand and the core value of libraryconcept system, the balance between biodiversity of user needs and library services.VIII. Key factors of library user demand ecological services system andempirical studyThe key factors of library user demand ecological services system includes thefollow parts: the excavation capability, access capability, implements capability andadaptive capability, even the binding capacity of the ecological chain and bootcapacity of user demand. Then this paper does the empirical study about the libraryuser demand ecological services system. Conceptual model is designed at first, and35assumptions are put forward. The the questionnaires are produced, and the sent tothe libraries.
