For more than two thousand years since its emergence, Confucianism has become not only the mainstream and core of traditional Chinese culture, but also to a large extent shaped the Chinese national character and national psychology. As an objective ethical element, it has penetrated into Chinese people’s daily life, and played the role of mandatory norms to what we say and what we do. Confucianism plays a regulatory role to what people say and what people do within ethic units of home, country, and the world. Therefore, whether it is from the perspective of the role of reality, or from the perspective of the theory purport, Confucianism should be attributed to the title of Ideological and Political Education. As a result, based on the discrimination and analysis to make clear the relationship between Confucianism and Ideological and Political Education, by systematically combing the historical evolution of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education, its ideological core and its path of the learning, we can not only have a profound understanding of Confucianism connotation to Ideological and Political Education, but also can excavate the high-quality, distinctive and ideological elements of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education, making it apply to today’s Ideological and Political Education business usage. This is also the idea of writing this dissertation.First of all, this dissertation investigated several premise issues in the Confucian Ideological and Political Education research. Through the analysis of Ideological and Political concept, this part analyzed the question that in what sense Confucianism can be recognized as a kind of Ideological and Political Education theory. Although the Confucianism thoughts did not take Ideological and Political Education clearly as the theme of their researches, this does not mean that in the historical periods of the development of Confucianism, it has nothing to do with the Ideological and Political Education, since political education, ideological education, and moral education are universal spiritual phenomena and universal social phenomena. In the era of civilization, the Ideological and Political Education based on these three kinds of education must objectively exist in the era on which Confucianism thoughts have passed. It must inevitably exist either explicitly or implicitly in Confucianism thoughts. Thus, Confucianism necessarily has in itself the implication of Ideological and Political Education. Confucianism must have its Ideological and Political Education theory. The second chapter reviewed the historical evolution of the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education, in order to show the rich resources of Ideological and Political Education theory in intrinsic quality of Confucianism. The first part was to investigate the background of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education(including economic background, political background and cultural background), followed by the sorting of the historical context in Confucian theory of Ideological and Political Education(including its starting and start-up, the formation and the establishment, maturation and development, the decay and decline period), the final part evaluated the intrinsic tension and ideological limitations of Confucian theory of Ideological and Political Education. This chapter aimed at investigating the Confucian theory of Ideological and Political Education from the vertical direction, in order to enhance its sense of history. The third chapter analyzed the main features of Confucian theory of Ideological and Political Education. This chapter firstly started from the basis of human nature and its path of realization of the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education to analyze the pathway of its academic arguments. The Mind Theory and the Mind Growth Theory were the characteristics and the basis of human nature of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education. Starting with these theories, the realization pathway of the Ideological and Political Education on Confucian theory can be divided into three phases: the foundation and starting point, the individual self-inventing of the original mind; its effort and extension, the practice pursuit of Saint and Emperor; its implementation and completion, the ideal society of the Harmony World. This was a consistent process starting from its foundation of human nature, and then gradually expanding outwardly. In addition, this chapter analyzed the characteristics Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education in terms of this separation and opposition of the object and the subject, and its educational methods. The fourth chapter evaluated the historical functions of the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education. The main point of this part was to analyze the historical functions of the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education from three aspects, its significance to the value of the Chinese nation, to the world, as well as the negative sense it had. Any theory will have an important corresponding historical effect, the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education affects even more. Showing the historical role the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education played, it also meant to see how it played a course of Ideological and Political Education theory, which should have its real effect with regards to its effects on people’s behavior, the formation of the social system, the national character of the shape, the outward cultural radiation, and so on.The fifth chapter investigated the important value of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education which is worth learning for us today, and put forward to my own views on how to complete the modernization of the baptism of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education. This section argued that the core value orientation of the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education, its rich content, and its reasonable core have important theoretical reference value for today’s Ideological and Political Education. Its education by lives and situations and its diverse approaches to education have an important value of reference on the level of practice. In order for the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education ready to be used today, it must complete the modernization of the baptism in three aspects, including the content and concepts, methods and means, system and mechanism. In history, the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education had formed a rich system of content through a long-term development, after many representatives of scholars researched. At different times, and for different representatives there, the Confucian theory of Ideological and Political Education had different priorities, different concerns of content, as well as different forms of theory. This in itself indicates that the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education constantly echoed requirements of the times, and completed its content and form. This also shows that the Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education is not a rigid and immutable dogma, but evolves with the era it underwent. Overall, however, Confucianism emphasizes on maintaining the feudal ruling class positions, which rarely changed, and its content concentrated on maintaining and restoring the rule of feudal society. Earth-shaking changes have taken place in the social conditions today, which is a great opportunity for traditional Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education to make an important morphology and content update. Actively implementing the modernization of Confucian theory on Ideological and Political Education is an urgent task for all Ideological and Political Educational theorists.
