The Aesthetic Studies Of The Relationship Between Form And Meanings Of Oracle

As aesthetic studies of the relationship between form and meanings of oracle, this thesis aims at taking oracle as the materialized forms of aesthetic consciousness.With the relationship between form and meanings of oracle as a point cut, it illustrates that the pictographic and ideographic nature of oracle decides the structural relations between its form and meanings, that is Form Expressing Meanings. Studying from aesthetics, we can interpret the aesthetic issues hidden in the relationship between form and meanings of oracle from the following3aspects.Firstly, this paper understands the relationship between form and meanings of oracle as Diagram-Concept relationship, and understands oracle as diagram of aesthetic consciousness. In Chapter Two, through the analysis of a series of characters on aesthetics in3groups of Mei, Wen and Yi, it portrays aesthetic activities in early phase by the Chinese nation and at the same time uncovers the features and rules of our Chinese ancestors’aesthetic consciousness, that is the preliminary self-awareness, the subjectivity and the formalism tendency of aesthetic consciousness.Secondly, this thesis understands the relationship between form and meanings of oracle as Form-Image-Meanings relationship, and understands oracle as aesthetic image. Relying on glyphs triggering the image of certain objects from the subject, oracle can realize its ideographic function. Chapter Three analyzes a series of issues such as the ideographic functions and features of oracle images, the psychological foundations to associations, the image-thinking mechanism, the emotional nature of oracle’s aesthetic image, the relationship between form and implications, and etc.Lastly, this thesis understands the relationship between form and meanings of oracle as Sign-Object relationship, and understands oracle as motivated-sign. According to Peirce’s principles of classification on signs, oracle can be classified into icon and index. Furthermore it analyzes the two kinds of signs’configuration rationality and its sources of drawing and marks. Finally on the above basis further interpret the metaphorical thinking, intellectual pleasant sensation and practical pleasant sensation in oracle signs’ configuration motivation, and etc.
