Based on a lot of oracle bone inscriptions, this paper argues the importance of "yang" in the social life of our ancestors with a study of a group of "yang" family characters in oracle bone inscriptions from the aspects of grammatology, documents and Chinese character culture studies."yang" has an indetachable relationship with Chinese traditional culture and plays an irreplaceable role in all kinds of social activities from worship and Totemis to social aesthetic and moral judgments."Yang" is the symbol of fortune in the heart of our ancestors which can be proved by lots of oracle bone inscriptions in which "yang"used in worship and offer to the superior. It can be further proved by "yang" entreat to "xiang". Meanwhile, the original meaning of "xiu" is offer with "yang" which provides important grammatology evidence for this topic."yang" also plays an important role in the social aesthetic and moral judgments: "yang" also has an indetachable relationship with these two mental and social activities.Chinese ancestors live by "Jiang" river and deem "yang" as their totem because its gentle nature and prolific feature. "Yang" participates the whole process from reproductive worship to praise of beautiful things and moral behavior.
