| This paper regards Qiu Ying as an iconic figure of Chinese classical painting tradition through exploring and examining the aesthetic value of Qiu Ying’s paintings. This paper will develop this argument in three sections.The first section discusses Qiu Ying’s life, art and specific social environment from the perspective of sociology of art, and reveals the conflict situation of historical evaluations of Qiu Ying’s paintings.The second part of this paper analyzes the basic drawing language of Qiu Ying’s painting, including composition, seals, lines, colors and theme, in order to explore the aesthetic style of Qiu ying’s paintings.Finally, from the macro perspective of Chinese traditional classical paintings, this paper argues that Qiu Ying inherits and returns the Chinese ancient tradition of ‘expressing spirit by form’ which is before the literati painting tradition through adopting inclusive strategies from different traditional drawing languages. |
