The dissertation reviewed the incidence, etiological factors, all kinds of clinical examination, therapeutic methods from modern medicine theories so as to propose that clinical practice should link to imageology to diagnose KOA, should think highly of patient’s conditions and evaluaton of therapeutic efficacy, should advocate combination of TCM with Western medicine, oral administration with drag for external use to heal KOA. Meanwhile predecessors’ empirical study from establishment of KOA animal models, observation indexes, drug mechanism of action to management of TCM were summarized.Experiment research observed the therapeutic effects of OA rats with Ningxi-1 formula.The indexes confirmed that Ningxi-1 formula could depress the quantity of NO and increase SOD’s activation, protect immtmorgans like thymus and spleen. Pathological section illustrated that Ningxi-1 formula could lessen synovium’s inflammation, protect articular cartilage.Ningxi-1 formula compared with Jingutongxiao Pills by therapeutic effects in Clinical research .There were.40 patients entitling into the observation study groups. There was therapeutic equivalence between management group and control group.Afer therapy by Ningxi-1 formula, patients’ pain scores, activity scores of knee joint and viability had better than pretherapy’s. There was not statistically significant between management group and control group. Compared the plain walking pain scores(100mmVAS) and WOMAC index before therapy and after which exposed that Ningxi-1 formula relieved knee pain slowly, the therapeutic effect was similar to the Jingutongxiao Pills’ about the pain relief and WOMAC index till to the fourth week’s therapy.
