Analyze You Yi’s Exegesis And Progress About Phlegm And Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory In Jingui Yaolue And His Cure Thought

ObjectivePhlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome is a clinical common diseases in TCM, which called’Tanyin’inancient Chinese. Zhang zhongjing put forward the treatment theory of Tanyin for the first time in the book Jingui Yaolue. The Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome theory is an important part of zhang zhongjing medicine, which had a great influence on later generations medical scientists about diagnosis and treatment of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome. The theory of TCM phlegm retention disease and the cure method was continuously expanding by expounding and progressing by the ancient medical scientists. And in that course, they have accumulated rich theories and experience in practice.Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory in Jingui Yaolue focuses more on Fluid-retained Syndrome than Phlegm Syndrme. Zhang Zhongjing put them together to begin a new time of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory. By that Zhang Zhongjing’s works was to take seriously in Song dynasty; in Jin dynasty and Yuan dynasty, Phlegm-retention theory was developped continuously. And Phlegm-retention extended from a disease to a field of etiology and pathogenesis. In the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty, Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory and Phlegm theory was summarized and deepened. Modern scholars of TCM put the Phlegm-retention research to apply in the etiology-pathogenesis and clinical treatment, and that promote the development of modern Chinese medicine. In the whole process of the Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory development, You Yi was deepening and induction of phlegm-retention theory in the Qing dynasty, its cure thought has prominent characteristics.You Yi dedicated his life to ancient TCM research and clinical practice, his work has had a profound impact on the acknowledgement on later generations. His representative works included Jingui Yaolue Xindian; Jingui Yi; Treatise on Febrile Diseases Guanzhu Note; Secretary of the Medical Reading; and Jingxianglou Consilias. On the basis of interpreting the synopsis, You Yi summed up the " Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm", which has very strong theory significance and the clinical practical value.The first purpose of this study was to explore the achievement of academic thought that carried forward by You Yi working on Jingui Yaolue. Jinguinal Yaolue Xindian spent You Yi decade years of research, and the annotations for Jingui Yaolue are unique and simple, which influenced the later generations to study this book profoundly. According to You Yi’s annotations, this study analyzes the Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome theoretical system from Jingui Yaolue, to explore the achievements which You Yi inherited and carried forward the thought of Zhang Zhongjing.The second purpose of this study is to explore You Yi original* Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm" in the book Jingui Yi, which is to summarize You Yi unique phlegm retention syndrome thoughts. Jingui Yi is a book that You Yi wang to supplement Jingui Yaolue, that can be regarded as great work of You Yi’s academic thoughts. By classifying medical diseases, the book discusses the principle, method, medical treatment, medicine of the diseases. By collecting predecessors viewpoints in this paper, You Yi completed the treatment, which has great practical value in clinical. Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm is the achievements of three aspects:Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome theory in Jingui Yaolue; The acknowledgement of the ancient medical scientists; and You Yi’s research. Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm are included of Purgating-excessive Method, Eliminating-conducting Method, Harmony Method, Restorative Method, Warm Method, Clearing-heat Method, andMoistening-dryness Method. This study traces the root of Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm to analyze You Yi’s academic context in curing Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome, and to research the development and supplement of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome theory in Jingui Yaolue.The third purpose of this study is to summary You Yi’s treatment means for Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome in the book Jinxianglou Consilias. Through the analysis of phlegm consilias, the characteristics of therapeutic method of You Yi are showed, which included the diagnosis, prescription and medicine of diseases. Closely tied to the argument of You Yi’s works, this paper discusses the consistency and flexibility from theory to clinical practice.From the above, basing on Chapter ⅩⅡ of Jingui Yaolue which was written by Zhang Zhongjing, named ’On Pluse, Symptom Complex And Treatement of Tanyiin and Coughing’, this paper analyzes You Yi’s cure thought of the Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory. The theory of You Yi has three parts:the part one is the Exegesis and Progress of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Theory in You Yi’s works; the part two is the treatment theory in Jingui Yi; the part three is the clinic treatment about Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome in Jinxianglou Consilias, which to develop the new way of thinking and the formulas of modern TCM clinical dialectical argument.MethodsThis research take the medical literature following the methods of text parsing, study on medical history, literature comparison, literature origin traceability, etc, combined with TMC theory proper interpretation, which to find the clinical significance of the ancient medical theory for modern Chinese medicine. This study applied these methods to the academic origin of the ancient theory of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome fastidious, and the analysis of the theory in the process of academic development, to summarize the theory in the evolution of the different historical periods and characteristics. This paper, that combined with the modern theory of TMC to properly play and refered to the achievements of ancient physicians, is in order to obtain relatively reasonable conclusion by comparing with the different theories.The theory of phlegm retention from Jingui Yaolue is the basis of this study. This paper focuses on three books, which are Jingui Yaolue Xindian, Jingui Yi,and Jinxianglou Consilias. This research references dynasties ancient Chinese medical books related to literature. All these work, is in order to systematically organize the theory of phlegm retention of naming, classification, etiology and pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation and treatment. This study has summarized You Yi Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome. The study has four parts as following:In part I, The study try to explore Jingui Yaolue Xindian, in which You Yi appearance and expound the Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome found by Zhang Zhongjing. In this part, I refer to the Comments written by 8 notability explainers of Jingui Yaolue, which is included of You Yi. The other 6 notability explainers of Jingui Yaolue were living before You Yi or living in You Yi contemporary. But one explainer lived after You Yi, which is in contrast to You Yi. The 7 notability explainers are as follows:1, Zhao Yide, who was the author of "Jinggui Yaolue Yanyi", was the earliest explained the book Jingui Yaolue comprehensivly.2, Shen Mingzong, who was the author of "Jinggui Yaolue Bianzhu", was good at using own experience to note the original article terms. 3, Xu Bing, who was the author of "Jinggui Yaolue Lunzhu", his teachers were Li Zhongzi, Yu Chang, and his academic views and origin was close to You Yi. 4, Wei Litong, who was the author of "Jinggui Yaolue Formulas Original Meaning*, he had been studying Jingui Yaolue for 40 years and was good at noting Zhang Zhongjing rigorously and detailedly.5, Cheng Lin, who was the author of "Jinggui Yaolue Direct Interpretation", and which was the famous doctor of ’Xin An’Medical Genre which genre popular from Ming dynasty to Qing dynasty, he noted Zhang Zhongjing by classical literatures.6, Li Wen, who was the auther of "Jinggui Yaolue Guangzhu", he noted Jinggui Yaolue by Huangdi Neijing.7, Gao Xueshan, who was the auther of "Jinggui Yaolue Interpretation of Gao", and who was the explainer after You Yi’s life, he studied Jingui Yaolue in his spare time and his research has clinic application character.In part II, the study focus on Jingui Yi’s Seven Method of Curing Phlegm and his Cure Thought. I try to clarify the original source of the theory and prescription cited by You Yin and written in the book Jingui Yi. In this part, it treated by the method of document traceability and medical history to analyze the source of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Cure Though by You Yi. By textual researching and analyzing 27 books cited in Chapter’Tanyin’ in Jinggui Yi, this part to show how You Yi choosed them. This section also adopts the method of formula analysis to analyze You Yi’s Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm. In this part, We analysis the Jingui Yi phlegm retention syndrome Herbal meaning and Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) methods are analysised deeply based on Pharmacology of traditional Chinese medicine theory.In part III, the study screen out the medical cases about Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome, which were written in the book Jingxianglou Consilias. Basing on the cases, I try to find out that You Yi’s Cure Thought and clinic treatment about Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome. The medical cases closely associated with Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome are deeply analyzed in this section. The selected cases are meeting one of the two standards as follows: one is that the title clearly associated with Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome disease; the other is that treatment belongs to Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm typically. Some cases were gave out, which something associated with Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome, but which treatments does not follow the methods of curing phlegm typically. The selected cases were analyzed in depth discussion using of the theory of TCM, which included of TCM etiology, TCM therapy, and TCM prescription. To analyze treatment characteristics of You Yi, the cases are compared against the theories or formulas of Chinese medicine built before You Yi, which combined with Jingui Yaolue Xindian and Jingui Yi to get further correlation analysis. All that is in order to achieve a relatively complete conclusion.In part IV, modern phlegm retention research and clinical application is consulted to discuss You Yi phlegm retention syndrome thoughts in the clinical application. We found that Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm is meaningful for modern Chinese medicine clinical dialectical argument. In Chapter 5 of this article the research objects and the results are discussed deeply. In this part, the achievements of You Yi who interpreted Zhang Zhongjing theory of phlegm retention is summarized, You Yi’s academic characteristics and clinical applications are analyzed and discovered, and the modern Chinese medicine clinical theoretical value and practical value of You Yi Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Cure Thought is discussed to add some new methods for modern Chinese medicine clinical using.Results1. In the book Jingui Yaolue Xindian, You Yi had further instructed the Four Fluid-retained system, including of Fluid-retained in Five Viscera, Prolonged Fluid-retention and Latent Fluid-retention. You Yi explained the therapeutic methods about Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome found by Zhang Zhongjing’s book Jingui Yaolue, whose principle of treatment called’Tanyin Fluid-retention syndromes can be cured by warm drugs’. There are three treatments Warm-harmony Method, Eliminating Method and Purgating-excessive Method, that are the base of Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm.2. By learning Jingui Yaolue, You Yi consulted a large number of theories of ancient medical books to develop the Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm. The Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm are included of Purgating-excessive Method, Eliminating-conducting Method, Harmony Method, Restorative Method, Warm Method, Clearing-heat Method, Moistening-dryness Method. In those methods, Purgating-excessive Method, Eliminating-conducting Method, Harmony Method, Restorative Method and Warm Method, were developed from Jingui Yaolue; Clearing-heat Method and Moistening-dryness Method were developed from the theories of the medical scientists after Zhang Zhongjing. The Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm is clearing thinking, practical and handy for curing Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome.3. Medical cases in the book Jingxianglou Consilias, that fully give expression to Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm and Cure Thought of You Yi, which were applied to Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome clinically. It was found that in the clinical cases, You Yi’s diagnostic analysis and therapeutic methods were based on Zhang Zhongjing’s works, and that You Yi always did proper adjustment to the classical history medical prescription, but in a few cases You Yi chose to create a new prescriptiont to clinical treatment in a flexible way. The analysis results show You Yi Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome Cure Thought system has highly consistency of the theory and practice. You Yi had application ancient prescription to treat the disease, which was a affirmation of the practical value of ancient medical books. You Yi basis reflects the clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment process, which is the practical application of Jingui Yaolue Xindian and Jingui Yi. It shows that You Yi unified theory with practice highly.4.You Yi’s Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm system and the clinical application has important theoretical significance and practical significance for modern medical treatment. The theoretical significance is that You Yi’s works might promote classic formulas in modern clinical use and that Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm has inheritance and originality in theory. The practical significance for modern Chinese medicine clinical is that Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm may bring more treatments and prescriptions for modern Chinese medicine clinical, which could expand the clinical treatments. Clinical application of those methods, not only does it have good effect to phlegm retention diseases, also for other diseases. Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm can be reference for both the governance of modern diseases of traditional Chinese medicine or western medicine diseases.ConclusionThe study of You Yi’s Cure Thought and methods for Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome were based on three parts, which are classic medical theory, original therapeutic method, and the research of medical cases. That constituent parts are from theory to practice, and embodied in the creation and application of Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm. So, Seven Methods of Curing Phlegm and the Cure Thought of You Yi, has theoretical and practical significance in Modern TCM clinical treatment of Phlegm and Fluid-retained Syndrome. You Yi phlegm retention of the thought of modern clinical treatment of traditional Chinese medicine cure has great practical significance. According to the dialectical You Yi corrected ancient prescriptions and used the ancient prescription to treat of diseases today. All this is significance to modern clinical application of Chinese medicine.
