With the rapid advance of social economy and urbanization, issues on urban color grow ever evident among drastic changes in urban landscape. While gradual alleviation of urban color pollution is managed through urban color planning, research on the subject is bottle necked due to the limitation of perspectives. Hence, a complete theoretical system must be established, which will upgrade the strata of both theoretical and practical purposes with its comprehensive visions, facilitate sustainable development of cities in full-spectrum and provide efficient guidance to the planning of urban color, contributing to the development of intelligent cities in an era of Big Data.As a subordinate component of the venation system of urban culture and dominant factor of its inheritance, urban color reflects its essence. The present thesis focuses on sustainable development and starts from the systematic research on the inheritance and transmutation of urban color venation, in regard to the development stasis and practical requirement mentioned above. Via the introduction of New contextual-ism,, the concept of "urban color venation", aiming at the revitalization of urban color, is constructed and then further discussed in terms of its connotation, background and characteristics. Outcomes of existing research on urban colors are collected to formulate a "chromo- and chrono-frame"- an incorporation of urban forms of chronology, space, cultural venation and colors. A model of "dissection of urban color venation " is introduced in an effort to identify the mechanism and practical application of sustainable development of urban colors. It facilitates the in-depth exploitation of urban color culture, which provides guidance to the abstracted, stereoscopic and comprehensive study on urban colors. Ultimately, sustainable development and full-spectrum urban colors venation will be realized. The thesis is composed of four parts. The first Part starts with an analysis of existing researches and dynamic of global urban color development, and concluded that the urban color development in China is bottlenecked. It provides theoretical basis for further conceptual construction via the confluence of urban cultural venation and urban colors. Via the introduction of New-contextual-ism, Part Two explores the system of urban colors venation in terms of its influence, characteristics, function and core values. Part Three employs the dissection term in biology and sets up a modelof dissection of urban color venation to identify its mechanism. It provides three levels of strategies and assessment criteria on sustainable development and, enhancing the operation ability of urban color theories. Part Four exemplifies on the history of change of urban colors in Tianjin. A database of urban color is established and processed, which, based on the city’s characteristicsm, provides various strategies on asymmetric development, color threshold and color filtering.
