The mainstream view of the scientific community thought, large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emissions came from human activities, especially fossil energy consumption were the main factors of atmospheric carbon concentration increasing. China as the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide, balanced economic development, social progress as well as energy saving and emission reduction would be a serious issue to be faced for China’s future development. This study applied the means of cross analysis of qualitative and quantitative, integrated of economics, environmental science, econometrics, mathematical statistics, management science and other research methods, by means of various methods, such as mathematical modeling, it analyzed and studied thoroughly on energy consumption carbon emissions and its driving factors. With low carbon economy related theories as the guidance, this study explored the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption and carbon emissions, analyzed evolution mechanism of carbon emissions resulted from energy consumption and economic growth in country and region, probed and grasped the characteristics and differences of various levels and areas, aimed to provide theoretical support and scientific basis for the strategy of low carbon economy development, to enrich the study on relevant theoretical framework of carbon dioxide emission reduction and low carbon economy, as well as to expand the theory connotation of low carbon economy development path. This study attempted to introduce household department into the extension Kaya identity, gave a detailed study on driving mechanism of carbon emission factors associated residents living, constructed LMDI decomposition model from urban and rural dual perspective to explore driving factors of carbon emissions from energy consumption in China. In consideration of the different driving factors’ effects and contributions during different periods with thorough analysis, this study explained the bottleneck of energy conservation and emissions reduction in process of industrialization for industrial sectors, as well as put forward a new situation feature for carbon emission increments resulted from urbanization process accelerated and energy consumption pattern of residents living changed. Based on the results, the study explored some related countermeasures, which could provide a scientific reference to achieve emissions reduction targets. In view of influence factors affected on the driving of carbon emissions, this study further explored the long-term equilibrium relationship between carbon emissions and the driving factors, this study adopted the method of econometric analysis to test the long-term relationship, and depicted a long-term relationship to further test driver mechanism of the driving factors, as well as provided theoretical support for the prior analysis results. Research results showed that energy saving and emission reduction influenced on economic and social development with non-negative effects, and how to achieve emissions reduction targets effectively had been discussed for the further study. This study also explored driving factors of carbon emissions based on the provincial perspectives, introduced clustering analysis method, this study further explored the differences of carbon emissions among provinces, aimed to understand the regional carbon emissions characteristics and its formation mechanism and to evaluate its internal driving mechanism, as well as to further judge the differences of carbon emissions during inter provincial level. The final target of clustering analysis is to get more scientific and reasonable results, put forward countermeasures for regional carbon mitigated cooperation, and provide more abundant information to establish effective carbon reduction policy for various provinces and municipalities, as well as to solve practical problems.
