With the rapid development of modern technology, stiff market competition, and enhancement of living standard, the term "product quality" in a narrow sense can not satisfy the demand from various respects. As a result, modern mechanical product quality design faces great challenge. Now almost all design institutions and enterprises focuses on how to enable their product to acquire competitive advantages in the market. The concept of product quality needs to be re-recognized by both designer and producer. Prof. Wen Bangchun considered that the generalized quality of product should have two basic elements: product function (includes main function and supplemental function) and product integrative performance (includes structure performance, working performance, and manufacturing performance). Hence, it can be said that the generalized quality of product in broad sense is "integrated summarization of product function and performance". The product quality in broad sense is equal to its full function and performance; however, it is not equal to product quality (Q) in narrow sense. Generalized quality should cover 7 factors (IQCTESK), they are science and innovative ideas(I), product quality(Q), cost(C), production period(T), environment(E), customer service(S) and knowledge(K).In view of new product development process, the assessment method can be found throughout the whole development period, from new product planning, feasibility research, design, testing, manufacturing, until customer service. For example, product demands information assessment, product design feasibility assessment, design proposal assessment, testing data collection and analysis, and customer verify. Due to the importance of the generalized quality of product, it is inevitable to implement integrated assessment for the generalized quality of product. Therefore, only scientifically and objectively assessing the whole process of product cycle life can really improve design performance and product competitive strength.This paper analyzes the generalized quality assessment system of the compressors and the vibratory extracting-driving piling machine based on the full-function and full-performance integrated design method of the products put forward by Prof. Wen Bangchun. The corresponding research work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.50535010) and the Key Laboratory of Shenyang Mechanical Vibration and Products Dynamic Design, concrete studies are as follows:(1) According to the connotation of generalized quality of product, it proposes the concept of generalized quality of product assessment system, constructed the mathematical model of the objective, content and method of generalized quality of product assessment system and divides assessment method: testing and assessing by the theoretical method, testing and assessing by the expert system, testing and assessing by the mechanical product testing, testing by the customer. Using these four methods, it can construct the generalized quality of product assessment system completely and objectivly. It can also provide test, supervision and decision for the decision maker, and avoid the questions by using the single or local assessment method.(2) It analyzes the advantage, disadvantage and scope of application of the theoretical assessment method. It compares the single assessment method, combined assessment method and integrated assessment method, which is usefull to combine the theoretical method and the actual product development process of the assessment system. To acertan type compressor as an example, the assessment index is constructed based on generalized quality of product. By using improved fuzzy AHP it is calculated with compressor performance's priority vector.(3) It analyzed the condition fuzzy sets of the expert system choiceing theoretical assessment method by putting the full-function and full-performance integrated design method and theoretical assessment method into the expert system. Using a certain type compressor as an example, combining the theoretical assessment method and the fuzzy expert system, it can choose the theoretical assessment method, calculate the priority vector and get the realistic results, then put them into the database. This can help the technicians accomplish generalized quality of product assessment without the experts.(4) Testing mechanical products, according to product development process, is divided into: Theory test, model test, factory test and field test. Key indicators for the test, depending on the various kinds of products, play an important role in the process of product development and quality control and management. It is adopted with satisfaction and success modle.With compressor as an example, the information is obtained through the questionnaire feedback. So it was analyzed and summarized experience. The quality was improved based on the deficiencies.(6) Through the product development process analysis and summarizeing the effect of quality assessment sysytmen, it establishes the improvement model for generalized quality. It covers various problems of the product life cycle. It is multi-angle and multi-level assessed with the generalized qulity by using various assessment methods. It is used with the integrated use of four kinds of assessment methods in the prduct development process. Before and after the data and the experience are contrasted about the product design, product manufacturing and product management. Quality improvement for the next lay a good foundation. Compressor as an example to illustrate the quality assessment system for product design, improvements in product design has played an important to do with.
