Constrained by the resources and the environment specially, the mining urban land is a typical urban regional land type of the LUCC research. The mining urban land-use change is an important aspect of LUCC research fields, which is also an important entry point from an integrated and systematic perspective to explore the man-land relationship areal system of the mining city.In this paper, a typical mining city of Jiangsu Province, Xuzhou City is selected as the analysis of sample. By making full use of RS and GIS technique and focusing on the scientific proposition of land-use change "process, pattern, mechanism, effect", the temporal-spatial variation process and the pattern characteristics of the mining urban land use were analyzed systematically, how the factors such as resources, economy, technology, transport and society affecting the mining urban land use was studied synthetically and the eco-environmental effects of the mining urban land-use change was analyzed from the perspective of the ecosystem in this paper. With their results are given below:1. According to the actual situation in the study area, the types of the land use were divided into cultivated land, vegetation, construction land, water area and unused land. And the remote sensing image interpretation marks that were in line with the characteristics of the urban land use in Xuzhou were established.2. Based on RS and GIS technology, the visual interpretation and artificial interactive interpretation were used to classify remote sensing images into land use maps of each time (1987,1994,2000,2003,2007) .In the interpretation process, some auxiliary data, such as the topographic maps, land use maps and so on were used and a field investigation was conducted.3. The basic concepts and contents, the main land-use change features of mining cities were sorted out, and the genesis analysis methods were used to study theoretically the driving force mechanism of the mining urban land-use change, the general theoretical framework of mining urban land-use change mechanism was established.4. With the supporting of GIS technique, land-use change rate, land-use dynamic degree and intensity, land-use development threshold and depletion degree, land-use comprehensive index, center of gravity transfer model, spatial differentiation model, spatial overlay and spatial interpolation analysis were applied synthetically to study the dynamic changes of the land use from the process to the pattern in detail. 5. Entropy change analysis of the land use structure was used to analyze the evolution process and trend of the construction land use structure of the study area. GIS spatial analysis methods of sector analysis, circle-layer analysis, network analysis were used to study and analyze comparatively the spatial pattern of the three main urban construction land that is industrial land, residential land and commercial land. And spatial metric measure index of CONTAG was used to study the relationship of the spatial pattern of industrial land, residential land and commercial and service industry land.6. An indicator system of the driving factors system of mining city land-use change was built and the impacts of some factors, such as the resources, economy, technology, transport, society and other factors on mining urban land-use change were studied. On this basis, methods of correlation analysis, principal component analysis and gray relational analysis were used to analyze the impacts of all types of driving force factors comprehensively and the main driving force of the different periods of urban land-use change were analyzed comparatively.7. Ecosystem theories of ecological service value, ecological footprint and landscape ecology were used to study the eco-environmental effects of the urban land-use change in Xuzhou from the different perspectives separately, such as the land-use types and structural level, the land-use biological and energy resource consumption level, and the land use landscape pattern level.
