The reliability-based maintenance not only concerns about equipment failure but also includes equipment failure consequences as an important factor in equipment maintenance decision-making. The theory takes the system economics as the starting point and integrates the relevant information of failure consequences and failure patterns. This paper conducted an in-depth study on the equipment maintenance reliability through digesting and absorbing the latest reliability theory and research results of equipment maintenance, along with the investigations and research on the status quo of equipment maintenance for the domestic enterprises. It expanded the areas of equipment maintenance research in some degree and is of some theoretical value and practical significance for the promotion of the domestic equipment maintenance developments. The virtual existence of the equipment reliability requires enterprises scientifically understand and manage such reliabilities. This paper studied the reliability-based equipment maintenance optimization problems for the single equipment system within the industrial enterprises. The main contents include:1.Through investigations of the traditional life cycle cost analysis methods, and further analysis on the relationship between reliability and life-cycle costs, the paper established the reliability and life cycle cost optimization model. By weighing the equipment reliability and the life cycle costs, the model achieves the best match between the reliability and the product life-cycle costs.2.Established the reliability-based single equipment system preventive maintenance optimization model in view of the opportunistic maintenance methods employed for the multi-equipment system. The model takes both production and maintenance into consideration to reduce the loss caused by the downtime incurred during maintenance overhauls. It also considers the dynamic impacts on the system reliability for different maintenance activities so that the model is closer to the practical applications.3.Conducted design for the reliability-based equipment renovation model. Under certain reliability requirements, the design considers the equipment renovation timing and maintenance cycle optimization to identify equipment maintenance cycles and the number of maintenances. The paper also established the variable maintenance cycle optimization model based on the system's minimum acceptable reliability level to ensure that the equipment maintenance costs per unit time is minimized while the equipment continues in safe production.4.Formulated the mixed-integer nonlinear programming model to optimize the reliability-based spare part components by considering the diversity in functional relationships between the reliability for the spare parts and the associated costs. It provides the spare parts optimization design based on different types of the reliability-cost functions.
