Passive Millimeter Wave (MMW) technology has greatly applied in the military. Ground (metal) target not only received the threats from active MMW system (MMW radar), but also received the serious threats from passive MMW system, includes MMW radiometer guidance system, airborne and satellite passive MMW imaging detection systems. To improve the ground target survivability in the future battlefield, based on the research of passive MMW detection principle, this paper carried on the research of passive MMW detection and stealth technology for ground target.The main contents just as follows:The threats of ground target from passive MMW detection are analyzed, and the necessity to carry on passive MMW stealth (MMW radiometer stealth) on the same time of active MMW stealth (MMW radar stealth) is pointed out.The theory basis of passive MMW detection——MMW radiation characteristics measurement theory is studied.Terrain background, ground target, and stealth target passive MMW detection and analysis work are conducted.On the basis of passive MMW detection distance analysis, a new token for ground target MMW radiation characteristics—target radiometer radiation section (RRCS) is established, and it is made to be the important characterization not only for passive MMW detection but also for stealth.The essence of passive MMW stealth is target RRCS reduction is pointed out.Two main ways for passive MMW stealth are pointed out and RRCS reduction methods of shaping, absorbing material, passive cancellation, active cancellation and temperature control are studied.Primary study of active and passive comparison stealth methods is conducted.In short, this paper based on the received threats of current ground targets from the passive MMW detection, systematized studied on the two aspects of detection and anti-detection. The aims for this article is to improve ground targets survivability on the current and future battlefield, provided the mew ideas and methods for new era weapons and equipment.
