Underwater acoustic networks (UANs) are newly arisen network technique. It consists of a variable number of sensors and vehicles that are deployed to perform collaborative monitoring tasks over a given area. UANs are envisioned to enable applications for oceanographic data collection, pollution monitoring, offshore exploration, disaster prevention, assisted navigation and tactical surveillance applications. In the paper the main purpose is to provide networking and communications for the system of sensors, which core contents are protocols, including modulating underwater acoustic channel, distributing share channel, and constructing routes.Complexity of underwater acoustic channel such as high delay, delay variance,multi-path propagation and Doppler spread ,makes it impossible to apply direct protocols for terrestrial wireless communication networks to underwater. In the thesis, Routing protocols in network layer are studied. To attainenergy-efficient and extend network'lifetime, an energy-efficient routing protocol for underwater environment is proposed. A position based forwarding algorithm is proposed. To meet the requirement of real-time applications, a real-time routing protocol is proposed. Finally, the results of simulation study proved its excellent performance and feasibility. The main contents of this thesis are as follows:1. A location based forwarding protocol is proposed, In the protocol, no state information is required on the sensor nodes and only a small fraction of the nodes are involved in route. In forwarding algorithms, nodes calculate forwarding factor, and according to it adjust forwarding strategies, so reducing energy consumption and decreasing collision probability.2. An energy-efficient routing protocol is proposed for underwater acoustic networks. The protocol is based on estimating of channel conditions,...
